Pixie

pixie 2

Pixie is an adorable 2-year-old pint-sized doberman weighing no more than 40 pounds. She is absolutely teeny-tiny and as cute as a button!  She got bounced around a lot between several homes and shelter life during the first 18 months of her life, so she is learning now from having a stable foster home and consistent leadership.  She still has more to learn, but she really has come a long way since she arrived.  Pixie gets along well with all seven dogs in her foster home, although she is best with other dogs that are confident and won’t let her boss them around.  She can do that if the other dogs permit it or the human does not step in!  But with her foster pack, she’s done very well since the beginning after she learned that she was not permitted to guard food and toys.  Pixie is now going to obedience classes and is trying to learn more about household obedience skills and leash manners.  She is doing great and is eager to learn more!  She really enjoys food and is quickly learning what behaviors earn her the rewards.  She would be a great obedience or agility student!  Pixie does have a lot of youthful energy and would do best in a fully fenced yard and actually an underground fence would be ideal for her since she has been known to jump over a 5-foot fence if she feels she is being left out of the action.  She only wants to be where the human is and has never attempted to jump the fence except when she thinks her human is about to forget to take her along.  So, she would most likely also be fine with a 5- (or higher) foot fence since she is otherwise doing well with her foster home’s 5-foot fencing.  She crates well, although can sometimes be vocal when stressed.  This has improved greatly and she is quiet at her foster home even with other dogs being out and creating some excitement.  Obviously, she is more content to take a nap in her crate if she’s had a good run in the morning.  Given that she can be noisy at times, she would not be a good fit for apartment or condo living.  A suburban or country home would be ideal.  She is best with no cats, and children should be 10 or older.  For more information, contact Laura at knollbg@msn.com
