Because we are all volunteers, Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus only considers approved applicants to meet our orphans in our foster homes. Please read our eligibility requirements and apply on our website: www.ildoberescue.com/adopt.  After an application is submitted, additional inquiries can email dobes@ildoberescue.com

Nita is a sweet Dobe pup who was unexpectedly fighting for her life when she arrived at IDR+. She was surrendered to a rural downstate shelter, who transferred her to us. As soon as we saw her, it was immediately apparent she was very sick and needed urgent medical attention. We rushed her to our vet for chest x-rays, and those were very concerning with severe pneumonia, air in her chest, and possibly a collapsed lung. She was put on fluids and antibiotics, but the next day, the regular vet was worried that she needed oxygen and more aggressive treatment at a specialist to pull through this. At the specialist ER, Nita was put in the isolation ICU for aggressive treatment for very serious pneumonia. She responded to oxygen, meds, and 24/7 TLC. After 2 days in the ICU, she was released to an experienced medical foster home, who continued to care for her with meds, nebulizer treatments, and chest compressions to loosen the congestion. Luckily, the tests for any viral, bacterial, or fungal infection all came back negative, so we are just treating her pneumonia. Nita’s follow-up chest x-rays are improving, so she’s on the right track. She will need a few more weeks of medication and nebulizer treatments, but when her chest x-rays are clear, she will be ready for adoption! Thank you to everyone’s generous donations for saving her life!
