We rarely make bold claims, but Luna is a perfect family dog. She is about a year old, and she seems to be a Schnauzer or some other scruffy terrier mix. She’s 50 pounds right now, but she might fill out some more. In her foster home, she is very peaceful when the house is calm, and she can romp and play respectfully with kids and other dogs. Luna loves exploring the outdoors, and she’d love her own yard to have adventures, but she is too sensitive for an e-fence. At the moment, she is a little worried about leash walking in a busy neighborhood, and she will lie down in protest if a school bus or skateboarder surprises her. A fenced yard for potty and exercise is ideal. She’s a homebody, so no need to take her far for fun. Luna is very curious about indoor activities. She cocks her head at domestic noises, like dishwashers and microwaves, and gently snoops into kids’ toys left on the floor without totally destroying them. She eagerly responds to commands (especially dropping forbidden items when told ‘no’) and would LOVE to learn new things. She snuggles without being pushy about it, licks only occasionally, and isn’t fazed by neighbor dogs barking or kids playing loudly. Luna doesn’t chase squirrels or bunnies, or jump on new visitors. Her fetching skills could use some work. She easily learned the routine of her current household, going to the bathroom only outside when it is potty time. Her favorite movies are Trolls and Moana, and she tolerates Masha and Bear for a little while before falling asleep snuggling her stuffed animal. Before she came to IDR+, we are told she lived outside downstate and got pregnant at her first heat. She was still just a baby, so she didn’t know what to do. We offered to find homes for her 3 puppies when they are done being bottle fed. She is still getting used to some concepts as an ‘indoor’ dog now, and she is happy to just be a beloved pet now. Luna takes a little time to warm up to new people and places, but she will be your BFF in no time. She has no history with cats, but she is a dream with the 2 young boys and older female dog in her foster home.
