Melvin’s Story
From orphan to IDR’s well-known logo, Melvin is the true embodiment of a success story. He came to IDR+ the single pup born at an animal shelter. Unfortunately, his mother stepped on him at a very young age and caused a severe break in his small leg. He has endured multiple surgeries to get the leg working as best they could. He still has quite a deformity, but it does not hinder him. His beauty and poise made him the only choice for a logo when IDR+ incorporated. And his imperfection and will to overcome obstacles embodies our philosophy. Helping ALL Doberman orphans when we are able to, no matter their medical issue or age. For the 9+ years we’ve been rehoming orphans, Melvin has continued to represent the organization at events and in print. Success = Melvin in all our eyes here at IDR+, and we look forward to his love and dignity for many years to come.
- Melvin at only 5 weeks old, in his first splint. How adorable was he?
- Unfortunately, the break was very severe and the splinting did not work. He had to have surgery. Here he is after his surgery. What a trooper!
- Melvin at 17 weeks. All appeared to be healing well, but unfortunately it wasn’t. He ended up back at the vet and they did another surgery and lots more splinting.
- Melvin at 19 weeks. IDR’s little man wasn’t so little anymore and he was turning out to be quite the looker. That would be the start of us thinking he would make IDR quite a mascot.
- Melvin was loving the spotlight. After his many photo shoots, we guess he thought the next one was for Playgirl.
