Doberman Application Please check that you agree and understand the requirements before continuing. Before applying, applicants must read and agree with all points: Understand that you are applying to adopt a Doberman IN GENERAL. While we ask applicants to list the gender/color/age/name of a dog(s) they are interested in, our volunteers' effort to process the application (including a vet check, association check, reference check, and home visit) can take a week or two to complete. Therefore, the one dog you specifically want might be adopted by the time you are approved, so please ONLY apply if you are open to adopt ANY of our available Dobermans. We have many Dobermans needing homes, so we will work with you to find a good match if the one you had your eye on is adopted before you are approved. Understand that we do not have a facility. We are a network of foster homes mostly in northern IL, and all applicants must be approved before being invited into our foster homes to meet dogs. Applicants must reside within Illinois and immediately surrounding areas within 4 hours of Chicago. Due to various issues with young children being the number one reason Dobermans are surrendered or returned to us, we do not adopt Dobermans to families with children under the age of 7. Many of our available Dobermans have no history with children, so we will not take the risk and set an adoption up for failure. Adopter will demonstrate the ability and commitment to provide proper care, exercise, and training for the lifetime of the dog. Abide by the IDR+ Terms and Conditions of Adoption. Have a fenced-in yard or other safe plan to exercise and allow the dog to relieve itself. Adopters must agree to keep the dog securely on leash at all times when not in a fenced-in area and never leave the dog outside in the yard unattended. Applicants living in an apartment, condo, townhome, or other association must provide written proof that a Doberman is not excluded by a breed or size restriction in your contract and/or provide contact info of landlord/association to IDR+ to verify. Agree to accompany the dog through a group or individual obedience class within 6 months of adoption (but the sooner the better). There are exemptions to this rule. However, any Doberman under two years of age will be required to attend obedience training to ensure the success of the adoption. Be able to provide vet contact info for a complete current medical record of current and recent pets. All current pets must be spayed/neutered; there are a few exceptions to this rule. They must also be current on vaccinations, and dogs must be on monthly heartworm prevention. Past history is a good indication of future care. Applicant is 21 years of age or older. No member of the applying household has any conviction, misdemeanor or felony, for the following offenses: domestic violence, animal abuse, animal cruelty, or animal neglect.
