Feature Dog
Feature Dog: Keith-I need Surgery!
last modified on July 29, 2010
“Bubba” update! Ok, my official name is Keith, but everyone just calls me Bubba. They say some people wear their hearts on their sleeve, well as you can see if you look closely at my picture, I wear my heart on my nose. Maybe this is a sign since I have a pronounced heart murmur. I just saw the cardiologist today and he said my heart murmur is caused by a birth defect called Patent Ductus Arteriosis (PDA for short). I do have a great shot at a long healthy happy life but I need surgery to fix my PDA before my heart muscle weakens too much. Please consider helping me get my heart fixed by making a special donation to my cause. The total cost from start to finish is $1300 (evaluation and surgery). You can go to www.ildoberescue.com and click the link below my photo and I can get my surgery! I don’t let this heart murmur slow me down, too much. I love playing with my foster brothers & sisters and cuddling with my foster family. I may be smaller than some of my brothers but at almost 50 pounds, but I’m great at tug-o-war, catch, and of course looking cute and getting treats! Because of my heart murmur, my foster Mom was told to make sure I don't overdo it, and to make sure I get rest in between playing. Once I get my heart fixed I should be better than ever, and I can play as much as I want. Since I'm still a puppy I really want to play! If you are able to donate to my cause, I will save a special tail wag and puppy kiss just for you! I am up for adoption too. Yes, I love my foster family, but I would really love a permanent, loving family that will be mine forever. I enjoy playing ball & tug-o-war. I can sit and shake hands; I’m crate trained and house trained too! I’m just a great puppy that needs his heart fixed and who is up for adoption. I am only about 8 months old so please consider helping me have a long life.
Thanks for reading my story…and for helping rescue dogs everywhere!
If you would like to donate to my cause, please use the link below. So far we have raised $360 for my surgery.

Feature Dog: Lexie
last modified on July 26, 2010
Here is the email we got for this sweet girl. "
We have a red female natural eared doberman, about 2 years old, HW neg, that has been given up by her elderly owners. Their son was going to shoot her if someone did not come & get her. She is currently at a vets office. She also has a case of demodex mange that we will start treatment for. Is your group in a position to take her on & assume her vet costs?" We do try hard not to take dogs from too far away as this girl was in Louisiana but no other group could take her. With lots of emails and the generosity of of one of the volunteers at her shelter she was kept safe until she could could come to IDR.
Update 7/23/10: Lexie is doing great. Her coat actually looks great now. She can go to a new home anytime and we will provide the meds needed to continue treatment. It is not contagious to other animals so no need to worry. Check out her new photos. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Feature Dog: Butkus
last modified on July 25, 2010
Butkus came to us from a local animal control where he was picked up roaming stray. We believe him to be part English Bulldog and possibly part Boxer. This beautiful dark brindle and white colored boy is estimated to be 2 or 3 years old and is so sweet and happy. Butkus has a severe case of demodex mange and is undergoing treatment for that. Check back for updates. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Feature Dog: Dax
last modified on July 25, 2010
Dax is a young male, at 13 months old, that hasn't had much attention. He has very few manners but is more than eager to please. Right now he is suffereing from Demodectic mange,(the type of mange that is not contagious and is indicative of a poor/immature immune system) which was diagnosed about 6 months ago and was not treated properly. That compounded with him living outside he got worse. So now we have him on an immune boosting supplement, ivermectin and we are dipping him. He would be ready for adoption in a few months. He will need a home that is dedicated to helping him learn manners and some obedience training. In his perfect home, he would have a secure fence, as he has lots of energy, and would the only pet. For additional information, please contact his foster Mom, Rdobe1@aol.com, AFTER completing an adoption application.

Feature Dog: Boozer
last modified on July 25, 2010
One of the kennels we work with came upon a little stray Bichon. She reported the dog as found to all the animal controls, vets etc. Luckily the dog was microchipped, or so we thought, but we called every possible number listed for the owner and nobody ever came forward to claim him. We did find out his name is Boozer and he is is 4 years old. The vet said he was well taken care of too. Oh well, he will have no problem finding a new home. It will have to wait a bit as one day she went to get him out of the kennel and he was not using his leg, took him to the vet and found out he had a broken kneecap that had to be fixed. He just had surgery so will need to heal. He is a sweet little guy that will up for adoption soon. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net If you would like to make a donation toward his surgery click on his button below. Thanks!

Special Needs
Sadie
last modified on June 17, 2010
Sometimes in IDR we come across a dog that just seems to be the living definition of rescue. One of our seniors, eight-year-old Sadie, is such a dog. She could hardly walk when coming into our rescue. We feel it is a combination of the old injury of a broken leg, hip dysplasia on one side and possibly some cervical issues. Though the owner did get her broken leg fixed, the reason for the break is shocking. His neighbor hit her with a large chain when he was mad that she came onto his property wanting to play with his dog. We have added in some supplements which really seemed to have helped her. Despite all this she is a very sweet, gentle girl who seems quite happy laying on a dog bed chewing on a bone. And now a few words from Sadie in her new foster home:
"I am a sophisticated, older lady but don't let my age fool you. I am playful and spunky, an avid collector of stuffies always making sure I have one close by. I won't mention my passion for pulling out all the stuffing. I am a loyal, velcro dog who loves my people. I love my Greyhound foster siblings and I am patient with the loud, obnoxious cat. I am smart, sitting and shaking on command. I am beautiful but camera shy. I am definitely a foodie. I have a special gallop I reserve for the race to the food bowl and I will not go to bed without my night night biscuit. As an added bonus, I don't have any bad habits, unless you count snoring. Please email Pam today at orphandobe@ameritech.net, it will be love at first sight - just ask my foster ladies."

Bumbles
last modified on July 12, 2010
Bumbles is a 6 month old red boy who is one happy, go lucky guy! He was born 12/15/09 and is about 40 lbs. and is patiently waiting for his forever home. Bumbles (or "Bubba" as his foster mom fondly calls him) has an unknown neurological disorder that affects his mobility and balance. Don't be fooled though because this boy is extremely active! He loves to run, play chase and wrestle with his foster brother. He simply looks a bit clumsy which makes him even cuter to watch! Bumbles has a very sweet personality and is more on the submissive side with other dogs. He absolutely loves everyone! Bumbles really needs to go to a home with another dog friend. They just need to be tolerant of very exuberant puppy play! He burns off most of his energy playing with his buddies in the backyard. There are a couple requirements that Bumbles must have. He must have a fenced yard to keep him safe. He also needs a home with very few stairs. He can manage a couple stairs going outside but can not do any more than that. Children are fine with Bumbles as he loves everyone but because of his clumsiness, older children 8 and up are best. He currently lives with 2 children ages 9 and 12. If interested in adopting Bumbles, please contact Jennifer at jtk859@comcast.net.

Ruby Red
last modified on May 6, 2010
Ruby was confiscated with many other dogs from a hoarding situation. She is thought to be about 9 years old and a very sweet girl. She loves everyone she meets and will snuggle all day. She LOVES food and does a happy dance at meal time. Ruby is a low energy Doberman and coming from a hoarder, she is so excited to have her own soft dog bed to relax on. She spends most of the day there watching everything that goes on between naps. Ruby was recently diagnosed with degenerative spinal disease. There is no cure but she has started chiropratic treatment and is turning into a new dog. She used to have bad days with intense pain but she hasn't had one since she began treatment. Her only downfall due to the spinal issues is that she cannot hold her urine for a full work day but can go many hours with no problem. She would do best with someone gone 6 hours or less so there are no accidents. If you would like to give this girl a real loving home and her chance to "just be a dog", please contact Joanne at dobeagility77@sbcglobal.net or 309-732-1468 (e-mail responds quicker).
DoberDuds: Ernestine Giesecke has donated DoberDuds for this shy girl. She sends this message, "DoberDuds and best wishes to IDR+ Ruby Red for a great and long life at a new, forever home. From: Ruby Red who has left her home for the Rainbow Bridge."

Flyer
last modified on April 16, 2010
Flyer is approximately 7 yrs old and was brought in as a stray. He is a bit unsteady on his feet and will stumble when he gets all excited and runs. If ever there was a happy boy, Flyer is it! He literally runs around the house smiling. He wants to be where all the action is whether it’s with the dogs or people. He insists on going out to play whenever any of his foster siblings go out. He LOVES tennis balls! He tends to be barky but that’s only because he is so excited to be with the family. He is very good in his crate but if you are home he wants to be with you. Flyer is very good in the house and likes to cuddle on the couch with his people. Does anyone out there want to open their heart to this very special boy? He is the very definition of a goof and you can’t help but smile when he looks at you. He is very good with dogs. For more information please contact Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net
DoberDuds: The William Dosek family sends DoberDuds to Flyer for the safe return of their Nina who got loose. Nina sends this message: "Thank you Teresa, Nina, Jolene, and everyone else who made sure I made it home safely from my adventure ... Nina Dosek."

Ellie
last modified on July 4, 2010
Ellie's nickname is SuperGirl because when she wants some attention she flies through the air and tries to jump in your lap. She loves to be kissed, hugged, and muttsaged. She snorts and giggles with delight. Too cute! She gets along with everyone, cats, and dogs,(large and small). She listens very well and is always trying to please you. Ellie loves her crate but does not need it as she is housebroken and not destructive.
Her little nub wags constantly, that is how she keeps her girlish figure, exercise! Definitely a "Red Hat Lady" at the age of 13 that has a lot of love left to give to someone who needs it. Believe me when you meet this girl you will have no idea she is older. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Holly
last modified on July 8, 2010
Looking for a fun summer girl to hang out with in the yard? Holly loves being outside in the nice weather and her foster mom just discovered how much Holly loves the hose. She will bite at the water until she is soaking wet. She is very sweet girl who just likes to hang out with her people. Though her foster mom has no difficulties with her behavior she is that typical smart dobergirl that will test you. So she needs an experienced owner. She is good with other dogs but like many females she will grump if they invade her space while she is lounging. In her foster home she loves to play with the other dogs and will wrestle with anyone willing. She is housebroken, crate trained and knows all her basic commands. She is fine with cats. Holly is about 7 yrs old. Holly will be a very easy dog for the right home.If interested email Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net

Noble
last modified on June 24, 2010
Noble can be described in two words..." Faithful Companion." This handsome gentleman will never leave your side. Where ever you go, there he will be. When he lays his big head on your lap and looks up at you adoringly, you can't help but fall in love with him, too. Noble must always have something to carry in his mouth. He loves his stuffies and tennis balls with a passion.
He gets along with everyone, people, dogs, cats, even the cranky bird. He does not play or socialize with them because his focus is always on his person...could that be you? He was picked up as a stray and thought to be maybe 7 years old. His gait is a bit off but it does not seem to hinder him. Our vet is thinking he may have Dancing Dobermans Disease but he gets around just fine. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Max Warren
last modified on June 17, 2010
Max Warren was surrendered due to lack of time. They also noted he was having accidents in the home and his crate but added that was likely because they didn't take him out often enough. He would fit best into a more quiet household where someone is home to let him out or can stop by at lunch during a regular work day to let him out. He is a very loving, well-behaved, gentleman who does well with kids and other similar sized dogs. He is very, very curious about cats though, so no cats for him. However, he does not seem to mind chickens or donkeys! He also does not seem to appreciate motorcycles and mopeds. He is uneasy about going in a crate but will ultimately go in when asked. He is crated during the work day in his current foster home. He has not tried to get up on furniture, with the exception of the bed (but even then, only when he isn't being watched). He lived with kids in his past and is getting along just fine with the kids in his new foster home. He is doing well with the other dogs as well but does not really seek out play with them. Max Warren enjoys going for walks and typically walks nicely on leash. He is a distinguished 9 year old who is very happy to be back with a family who gives him attention and time (versus in a shelter environment) and would love to find his new forever family to live out his golden years with. Feel free to contact tsfmcky@yahoo.com if you are interested in providing Max Warren with his forever home.

Kemo
last modified on July 25, 2010
We received this email on two seniors. "Hi there, I am a local Ohio animal rescuer and I recently got a call about 2 red dobes in need of placement soon. I have gone through all of my normal routes and havent been able to find them anything and my home is currently full. I was hoping maybe your organization might have some room. I hear that these dogs are extremely sweet, I am still trying to gather info about their current home, but it doesn't sound like a good one. I was contacted by a neighbor after the owner made a remark about not wanting them anymore and putting them both down. Please let me know if you think you could help me out with these two. Thank you so much!" A few days later we got an email saying the original owner of the dobes left the state and just left the dogs behind in their pen. The rescuer went over to meet them and found the living conditions to be unfit for any living animal. You can see the picture of them in the kennel run before they came to IDR. Both Kemo and Justice arrived and were vetted. They are now ready for new homes. They do not need to be placed together but they are great together. It amazes me that they adjust so well to living indoor after 8 years outside. Neither of them have had any accidents in the house and have wonderful manners. Kemo is incredibly sweet and just loves everyone. He is on the larger side at about 100 pounds. He seems fine with other dogs but needs a slow introduction. He loves to play with Justice and then come in for a nice nap. He moans and groans so loudly when he is making himself comfortable it is quite funny. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Athena
last modified on July 18, 2010
Athena is now 9 years old and was returned back to IDR+ due to the owner's health issues. Athena has not changed a bit since I originally fostered her, she is still so wiggly and happy with everyone she meets, she loves being petted, especially belly rubs and will give you back many kisses. She is crate trained (if needed), she does stay in a bedroom behind a baby gate during the work day until she gets use to being back in a different home. She is housebroken (have a petsitter that comes during the day) and can handle a regular work day schedule. She is good with my other dogs in the home, both large and small, and seems to be doing really well with the cats. She does love to lay in my back yard or on the deck enjoying the warm air and sunshine. She is wonderful in the car and knows basic commands. Overall this beauty is a wonderful, sweet and very loving senior girl, that doesn't look it and has the best laid back personality. She is content laying on one of the dog beds or next to you on the couch. If you are interested in beautiful Athena, please email her foster mom, Nancy, gottahavedobes@ yahoo.com. Thanks for reading about this precious girl.

Suzy
last modified on July 29, 2010
Suzy is as sweet as they come. She loves to hang out with her people, insisting on an ear stroke or head pat when given the chance. She is fully housebroken, walks well on a leash, knows her basic commands and has wonderful manners, except around food. She will stare into your eyes until you cannot help but give in and offer her a taste of whatever you may have. She also really enjoys the companionship of other dogs, and doesn't mind cats either. She can often be found frolicing in the yard with the young dobe she lives with, keeping up with her in a typical youngster fashion. Inside she is a bit more laid back, but if someone gets excited, watch out.... she will get the zoomies and run around with the biggest smile. The amazing thing is this happy girl is 10yrs old, but don't tell her that! She has the body and stamina of a 5yr old. Suzy was surrendered to a shelter because her owner could no longer afford to care for her. She had to have some non-cancerous tumors removed and a full dental done. She is now ready to go to her forever home where she can live out the rest of her years (which could be many) playing in a yard and snuggling on the couch. For more info on Suzy email her foster mom at manda12981@yahoo.com

Lightning
last modified on July 19, 2010
If you are frightened by stormy weather meeting Lightning will give you a whole new outlook. He is a bright boy and I am sure in his younger days he moved like lightning. Now, he is a little slower but just as curious about everything. If your lights go out during a storm he will be right by your side doing his biggest doberlean and having his head in your lap. Petting his head over and over your thoughts about the scary storm will be swept out of your mind and you will only be thinking of how lucky you are to have such a loving dog. Lightning came to us in 2007 at the estimated age of 9 years old. He was adopted and for all we knew all was fine. Then out of the blue we get an call from a man who found an IDR dog. We were able to track down who it was due to his microchip and of course took him right back. We called all the phone numbers listed on the adopter's app, his vet etc. but never could we track down his owner. So sad that this old boy was running loose and we are very thankful the good samaritan picked him up. So now he is about 12 years old now and looking again for a home. Of course he is older now and has bumps and lumps, it looks like he is getting cataracts, and possibly the onset of Wobbler's disease. Despite these characteristics he is still a very handsome and dignified dog. It would be best for him to live in a ranch house or one where he only has a couple of steps. He gets along with all of my dogs and has no aggressive issues at all. He is housebroken. I do not have him in a crate but he does sleep on a kuranda bed with a soft dog bed on it, he does not even try to get on the furniture. What he wants more than anything, except to eat, is to have a person that will pet him, walk with him, and love him. Will you open your home to a loving senior? Please contact leninger1604@comcast.net for more information.
The photos posted are from 2007 but he is such a pretty boy.

Bart
last modified on June 30, 2010
As the young Bart Simpson says 'I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, there's no way you can prove anything!' Our Bart agrees, he's quite the young, mischievous doberteen. Bart's a little over a year old and still growing into his legs (as you can see from the pictures!!). He would love a home where he can get lots of exercise and would love another canine companion to romp with. Bart does need a slower introduction to other dogs but once he is comfortable he absolutely LOVES to play and can be a little pesty in his eagerness. He currently lives with 4 other dogs and get along great with all of them. Bart is crate trained and has wonderful house manners - he's potty trained and does not counter surf or get into the trash. He does have a few bad habits (who doesn't??) that can easily be corrected with obedience (and we are working on these) - jumping on people to say hi, getting mouthy when extremely excited, and barking at other dogs and people when out on a walk (or from the windows at home). In other words, he's a pretty typical 1 year old doberboy. Bart does require obedience classes and would blossom with a positive reinforcement training regimen (he is a little on the sensitive side!). He's got quite a fun-loving attitude and is up for anything. He can't promise to always be a good boy (what fun would that be??), but he can promise to put a smile on your face every day. Bart will only be adopted to a family with all adults and/or children over 10/12 yrs. Please email Erin at majesticbourbon@gmail.com if you are interested in Bart.
DoberDuds: Bart's DoberDuds come from Doreen Jeurink who wants this energetic Dober boy to be decked out for Christmas like the halls with boughs of holly.

Chance
last modified on July 18, 2010
Chance was picked up as a stray and thought to be about 2 years old. He is a very energetic boy who still acts quite puppylike but who settles down nicely once he has a chance to stretch his legs. He is a big boy so obedience class is definitely something he and his new owner will need. Chance would make a great walking companion once he has some refresher obedience classes under his belt. He is great with other dogs and loves to play when he is outside but jealous of his person when in the home. For that reason he is best as an only dog or possibly placed with another female with slow introductions. He loves everyone, but does have a tendency to jump on you so we are saying no small children for him. He is a quiet boy overall and loves to hang out with you and watch TV. Chance has mastered the dobe lean and will crawl into your lap when you sit down. Chance is no friend of small creatures so no cats or small dogs for this sweet guy. Chance can ride in the car, but is so excited at the chance to be near you he may be a distraction on your lap. He will be such a loyal companion and is waiting for someone to adopt him. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Please note Chance is in a kennel now as we just do not have enough foster homes for all the orphans. It costs $240 dollars per month to house him. If you would like to donate toward his boarding and food please click on the link below.

Lance
last modified on July 12, 2010
Lance was surrendered to a KY shelter by his very elderly owner, who was no longer able to care for him. About 6 yrs old, he had been well cared for and loved. One of the worst fears of most pet lovers is that, for one reason or another, we are no longer able to care for our beloved pets. Thankfully, IDR+ was there to commit to helping Lance find another wonderful home. A very happy, well behaved boy, he is a constant butt wiggler, who loves nothing more than to look at you longingly as you talk to him. Although still very active, a more calm home would probably work best for him since that is what he is most used to. Lance does not get along with other male dogs or cats. He loves to play with Raven who is also up for adoption. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Baron
last modified on July 1, 2010
Baron came back to us about 5-10 lbs overweight but has now slimmed back down to a nice size. Baron LOVES to go walks/run/bike rides and behaves great on leash. He is very active and will need plenty of daily exercise to maintain his newly acquired waist line. Baron is housebroken and crate trained and has out grown all those pesky younger dog antics (he is about 3 years old). He absolutely adores being touched and will sit next to you for hours if you keep petting him. Baron has been through obedience classes with his foster mom and knows sit, down, stay, leave it, heel, and shake. However, he really needs to work on his recall as he has a tendency to blow you off if he is out in the yard. He gets along great with other dogs, however he can be quite overbearing to some and would live best with a canine companion of the opposite sex. Baron does have a moderate prey drive but quickly calms down if you tell him to leave it if on a walk or leashed. Baron cannot live with cats or other animal varieties of smaller stature. He also will not be placed in a home with small children. Baron is very enthusiastic in everything he does and always gives 110%, he's got quite the go-getter attitude. When he's super happy or apologizing he even cracks a smile! If you are interested in learning more about Baron please email Erin at majesticbourbon@gmail.com after filling out an application.

Dzorro

D'Zorro is an adorable 2 year old with a HUGE smile that was given up due to allergies with a family member. He is a more fine boned Dobe with the happy personality. He is great in his foster home. He is crate trained and appears to be housebroken. He is okay with the dogs but will need slow intoductions, once he knows them it is all about playing. He is not good with cats. He does know his commands but he also loves to play the catch me game so needs a refresher course and a fenced yard. Like all Dobermans, he is a quick learner and has quickly learned to come when called as he gets a treat. He came to us very underweight and is now looking great and ready for a new start. He loves toys and giving kisses. He is ready to show his big smile to you. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Kalib
last modified on July 25, 2010
We received this email..
"My name is Michelle and I am reaching out to you in hopes you can help save a Dobie named "Kalib". He is a 4 year old male. He is in a kennel in Shelby IN. The man that has this dog now was an employee to the man that did own him. The original owner passed away. This poor man is overwhelmed and trying to do the best he can with the dogs with very little help. Kalib is a beautiful Dobie. He hasn't had much contact with people other than the ones that let him out. He is in a cage alot where he is at. He has some pressure sores on him. Can you please help this guy? Thank you so much for your time!" So we of course said yes to him. Kalib was adopted but unfortunately had to be returned as he cannot live with cats. The temporary home said he was very good in the house. The only real issue was he wasn't completely housebroken but was learning quickly. He tends to hold it until he really has to go. Other than keeping an eye on him to let him out, he has wonderful housemanners. He is very eager to please and easy to train. He knows sit, down, stay, come, play dead, shake and other paw. My boyfriend also taught him the word 'velcro' and when he hears it he comes running up and leans against you, its really cute. He's one of the easiest dogs I've ever walked, though he does still need some leash work. He does fine in the car, but he doesn't care for it and will whine the entire time until he falls asleep. He's just such a funny, goofy, sweet, calm dog. Unfortunately my cat is very skittish and tends to run away, which I think provoked Kalib's prey drive and he never saw the cat as anything other than something to chase. Kalib is certainly good with other dogs and people of all ages, he sat quietly while a neighbor girl, about 4 years old, petted and kissed on him. He had no real interest in toys, which I thought was odd, but loves treats and will do anything (except leave the cat alone) for a hot dog. Kalib really is a sweetheart and I hope he finds his forever home soon. I'm just sad it can't be mine. He really is great. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Niko is an adorable but very puppy like 1 1/2 year old boy. He is very sweet and very happy. Niko will need someone who can give him lots of exercise and obedience school would be a big plus. Not sure how he will be with other dogs as he does get a bit amped up when they are around. He has not been in a foster home yet so we cannot add anymore information. Kip
last modified on July 29, 2010
Kip was picked up as a stray and thought to be about 2 years old. He should go really fast, he is very easy and such a sweet dog. He is now in a foster home and his foster said he has a ton of great qualities. He gets along with everyone he meets, including dogs and cats. He will happily lean against you or lay his head in your lap when you pet him. Kip is already housebroken, crate trained and knows how to sit, down and give paw. He rides great in a car and tolerates grooming like a champ! Despite being a young dober boy, he settles down very well in the house. But take him in your yard and thrown a toy and he is ready to play, preferably with his jolly ball. Kip doesn't bark much but he can be a bit vocal with grunting and crying at times including when he is crated, but he soon quiets down. He is a quick learner and isn't even needing a prong collar when learning to walk on a leash. This wonderful boy is all ready for a home to call his own! Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Kaylee
last modified on July 25, 2010
Kaylee has come along way since she was lucky enough to come to IDR. Her personality will steal your heart in just minutes. She was picked up as a stray, but she is about 1 1/2 years old and. Since she can't tell us about her previous life, what we do know is this, Kaylee loves everyone although she does take a minute to warm up. Once she does though she is a cuddler & a snuggler... loves to be by her people. Kaylee, is housebroken. She is crated or blocked during the a normal workday. At night, she sleeps uncrated in the bedroom. She will do better in a home with older kids, as she is still a teenager herself she can be a bit boisterious around younger kids. She has loved all her foster bother/sisters from young puppies to the seniors. Being very energetic & playing on the rougher side, an older playful male dog would be the best fit for her. She loves being outside, chase is a favorite, so a fenced yard would be a plus for this girl. She will also make a great jogging partner. Being on the younger side obedience classes are required. Poor baby, also doesn't do so well with car rides as she does get sick, even with short distances. With patience & love, Kaylee will make a wonderful addition to your family, she'll bring plenty of kisses!! Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

China
last modified on June 7, 2010
Are you looking for a sweet but very active redhead to add to your family? China needs to be an only dog so that she can just relax and enjoy her people. She is about 1 1/2 year old. She loves everybody and is happy to curl up on her bed with a chew toy. She is very attentive and will stare straight into your eyes for treats. She is crate trained and housebroken. She really tries to always be a good girl but other dogs are just too much for her with her becoming distracted and very high energy. So if you are looking for someone to give all your undivided attention, China may be your girl. China must have a fenced yard as she enjoys running more than any dog we have seen and does not do well in public settings with dogs. For more information please contact Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net

She is about 6 1/2 years old and ready for a new start. She is shy when she first meets you but once she settles in she is goofy and fun. She is not great with other dogs but could live with a mellow male. She might be best with a fenced yard so she can safely run around without other dogs around. She is great with cats. Kiri
last modified on June 6, 2010
Kiri was picked up as a stray. She is about 5 years. When she first came in she wasn’t feeling good and was quite grumpy with her foster siblings. Once she started feeling better she has started taking all her toys out of the toy box to play with. She liked to spread them all around her room. However, now that she shares a room with one of her foster brothers she prefers to steal all the toys and put them in her crate. She doesn’t seem to mind her brother going in to get them. Out in the yard she loves to run, run, run. You know it’s time for her to come in when she is on the deck giving a few barks. She is fairly quiet in the house but will bark quite a bit when it is meal time. She is a bit shy with new people and would prefer a quieter home. She could share her home with a male dog but would probably prefer to be the only dog. She is housebroken and crates well. No cats for this girl. Sophie
last modified on May 16, 2010
Sophie and another small dog were kept outside 24/7 and occasionally escaped from their pen. Sometimes animal control would pick them up and sometimes neighbors would take them back to their pen. This last time they escaped animal control picked up Sophie and the owner did not want to have to pay the fee to get her back. What a doll this girl is? She is about 4 years old and has been such an easy foster girl. She is good with the other dogs but definitely a dominant girl. Absolutely loves to run and play with the other Dobes. She has a bit of a goofy walk so we took her to the vet and he does suspect she has Dancing Dobermans Disease but there is no actual diagnosis for that. She runs and plays just fine (see photos) so don't let that stop you from adopting this girl. She is crate trained and housebroken. She can be a bit protective of the home and will let you know if someone is at your door. She loves to lie out in the sun and is a very quiet girl in the yard. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Raven
last modified on July 12, 2010
Raven was given up because her owner was "downsizing." She had previously lived with another dog but her owner put that she is best as an only dog on the give up sheet. We did evaluate her in the home and she acted fearful and barky, but once we took her in she seems to be a completely different dog. We think her setting was just not a very happy place for her, they had her behind a babygate with a prong on that was way too tight. She is happy and playful with everyone she meets now and her temporary foster home said she was great in the home. She barks at rapid movements so no small children. Her give up forms lists her as knowing her basic commands but it sounds to me like she would do best with someone who sets limits and will take her for a refresher course. She is 5 years old and a very pretty girl, despite her poor ear crop and taping job. Raven must have a fenced yard. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net.

Shelby
last modified on July 7, 2010
You won't find a better companion than this leggy, young girl! Shelby was picked up as a stray but the people could not keep her because their dog did not get along with her. It's hard to believe she was a stray because she loves people and very much wants to please them. She is quickly learning the rules of the house and takes guidance from people very nicely. She's got energy and is playful, being only 1 1/2, but she's not a high energy girl. She's content laying near you - or leaning on you - she loves attention. Shelby is very curious and likes to check everything out, doesn't touch anything but dog toys. She's also pretty quiet - we've only heard a few barks while playing or seeing another dog on a walk. She crates ok, whining and singing for a few minutes because she really prefers to be with people, but she does settle down. She has not shown even a hint of possessiveness with toys or food around people or dogs. In fact, she takes food and plays pretty gently. She loves bananas, apples and peanut butter which are helping put some needed weight on her. Shelby chomps when she gets excited or wants something - it's very cute. She got along fine with a large male after a SLOW introduction but needs manners meeting other dogs while on a leash. She gets pretty amped and barky. She will not be placed at a home in the city do to this and would be best with a fenced yard where she can exercise safely Shelby has not been cat tested. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Azul
last modified on July 25, 2010
Azul is an adorable 4 year old with a great blue coat. She was surrendered to the shelter by her owners with no reason listed. Everyone who meets and interacts with Azul, notices right away that she is very sweet and loves attention. She will gently lick your hand or your face, if you let her, to let you know that she's always there by your side. She just wants to be loved and touched or petted on the head once in a while. And if you ever want to experience what a Doberman with a very tiny tail behaves like when she is happy, Azul will definitely show you that! Her tail was docked very short and it almost looks like it isn’t there, until Azul starts wiggling her little behind when she is excited and then the tiny tail perks up! We noticed Azul drinks a ton of water so the vet tried to get a U/A but unbelievably this girl held it for 2 straight days so the vet never got one. He did do bloodwork and found her to have a high white cell count. We don't know why that is so she is on antibiotics for now. She is a very easy foster girl. Azul is also very good in a car; it’s funny to watch her clumsily climb up on the seat after she jumps into the car. She is very good with other dogs. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Elaina
last modified on July 27, 2010
Elaina, a five year old B/R female dobe has shown much improvement over the 6 days she has been in her foster home. After she had been thrown out by her owners, shipped from Indy to Illinois ,placed in a kennel and then brought to a stranger's home, with cats, whom she ignores, thankfully, and 2 dobes, one being a zealous 2 y/o boy. She also feared two storms, and has proved to be a survivor! She did develop a little cough and I believe it affected her ability to be her loving self , but she has proved to be a a true velcro and people oriented dobe who makes sincere eye contact with you. She is now eating great and feels better after her daily grooming and TLC that her foster mom and family have given her. She has earned run of the house since she is not destructive at all and very quiet. She only gets agitated at times when the other dogs get in her way when she is resting or sometimes over a possession, even though she has minimal interest in anything to play with. Because of this ,I believe she would be great as an only dog ,since she loves human attention more than her own kind. She does walk well with them side by side on leash and mingles somewhat in the yard, but than can get defensive and snarls when she's had enough. She doesn't seem to know how to play. She can be crated or gated in her room with a bed, but prefers to be just hanging around.Elaina responds best to a gentle voice and hand making her foster mom suspicious that she wasn't treated that way in her past life. She will sit for her food with gentle coaxing and when she gets happy she will wiggle her butt , then her whole body! She sometimes will jump up as if to give a hug or raise her paw to you.In the yard ,she has a watchful eye for her person's presence, but likes to do her business in private at the back of the yard. Sometimes Elaina will be hesitant to come into a room or cross a threshold to come in from outside but with gentle guidance and patience, she is overcoming that issue also. Basically Elaina is a great dog who seems to like everyone, and will make an awesome member of a special someone's family , especially if you seek a not too hyper-active dog. Sasha was surrendered along with Trevor because the family’s new baby was allergic to them. They got Sasha as a puppy and she is now 5 years old. The owners took her in from someone who found her stray at about 6 weeks old. She looks more like a Dobe/Lab with how thick she is. She is also very overweight so she is on a diet. She is very happy and outgoing. Sasha knows all her basic commands, rides nicely in the car and walks well on a leash. She even gives paw with both paws. She is not crate trained but is housebroken and is not a chewer. She gets along with other dogs but chases cats. Sasha is afraid of storms but as long as she can hide in the bathtub she is fine. Satina
last modified on July 28, 2010
Satina and her daughter, Lucy, are yet another example of dogs losing their home because of a new baby. In this case, it was a grandchild. And, there weren't even any problems between the dogs and the baby. The owner just thought there MIGHT be problems and dumped the dogs. Satina is about 3-4 yrs old and is very typical of a female Dobe, being a little bossy. As neither dog had been taught any manners, they both will require an obedience deposit to insure they will receive the training essential in making a wonderful family companion. Satina is crate trained, totally housebroken, and, although she has lived with other dogs, would do best as an only pet. For more information on Satina, contact her foster Mom at Rdobe1@aol.com AFTER completing an adoption application.

Lucy and her Mom, Satina, are yet another example of dogs losing their home because of a new baby. In this case, it was a grandchild. And, there weren't even any problems between the dogs and the baby. The owner just thought there MIGHT be problems and dumped the dogs. Lucy is just over a year old. Right now, she is in constant motion. But is learning that she gets a terrific treat for sitting or calming down. She is very eager to please and loves any attention she gets. As neither dog had been taught any manners, they both will require an obedience deposit to insure they will receive the training essential to making a wonderful family companion. Lucy is crate trained, totally housebroken, and would do best in an active family that is patient with her youthfulness and is commited to positive, consistent training. She is now living in close proximity to a cat, and probably could be taught to leave them alone. But, right now, I think she would chase the cat just for fun. Jekyll
last modified on July 30, 2010
Jekyll is an adorable 4 month old that has been a very easy puppy to foster. He is about 25 pounds right now. He is doing very well with his housebreaking, and is clean and quiet in his crate. He loves to play with his older doberman foster brother, and is playful, but appropriately submissive. He also gets along well with the small dogs in the home. He is interested in the cats, but immediately backs off if they hiss at him. Jekyll is a very calm puppy, and when all the other dogs are relaxing, he is willing to spend the evenings on the couch with his foster parents, quietly chewing a bone or playing with his toys. He has already been neutered and has had his tail docked, so he is ready for a new home. Email Jane at wevmit@sbcglobal.net

Bella
last modified on February 22, 2010
Bella is a sweet and adorable eleven-pound Brussels Griffon mix. She is two to three years old and seems to bond with one person at a time, but that bond is amazingly strong and she desperately wants to please. Bella was given up when the owner’s brother moved in and he did not like dogs, but it’s also pretty clear she doesn’t trust men either and is best suited in a home with no children. Bella is great with other dogs of all sizes and with cats but seeks out smaller dogs for playtime. Since arriving in her foster home, Bella has immediately made herself comfortable but took several days to warm to her foster mom. Once she felt safe, she became glued to my side. The men in the house took several months to be accepted, but she does tolerate them even within a few weeks and doesn’t want to upset them either. A man living in the home would need to be patient with this girl but she is well worth the effort and with patience she will come around. Men who come and go would probably never be fully trusted and she would simply keep her distance. Bella is fully housebroken, crate trained, relatively calm and quiet but thoroughly enjoys playing with other small dogs in the house. She is fine with dogs of all ages and sizes and is no pushover either holding her own when playing once she feels comfortable with the other dog. She loves to curl on the couch at night and absolutely thinks “her” human hung the moon. I have never seen a dog this utterly devoted. Bella is currently taking a basic obedience course and her next family would need to continue with formal obedience work as well. If there is a man in the home, it would be best if he could be the handler during the training as this seems to be building her confidence towards men. If you are interested in Bella, please complete an application which can be found under the Adoption Process section of our website. She is currently being fostered in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, she is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations and her adoption fee is $225. Tracker
last modified on June 21, 2010
Tracker is an adorable wiggly boy who is around a year old and we believe is a chihuahua/dachshund mix weighing about twelve pounds. He generally gets along with everyone he meets and just wants to play. He has a quiet side and will snuggle on his foster mom’s lap for some ear rubs but once done he prefers his dog bed or gnawing on a Nylabone. He crates very well and seeks out time in his crate, rides easily in a car if crated, can go a full workday without going outside and enjoys playing with other dogs of all sizes if allowed an introductory period of a week or two and is absolutely not one for dog parks. While he gets along well with people, he can be rough in play and because of this will be adopted to a home with adults only. Tracker loves to make the humans around him happy and recently passed his formal basic obedience course, so he heels beautifully, sits patiently and will also lie down. However his new family will need to work with him in a required obedience course as well so he learns to understand and trust his new humans. He is completely housebroken and even makes sure to let you know when he needs to be taken outside. Tracker is a fairly quiet boy and not a typical yappy little dog by any means. He doesn’t understand toys but does love a chew stick in the evenings and takes treats gently when offered. He is neutered and up to date on all of his vaccinations and routine tests. Tracker’s adoption fee is $225 and he is being fostered in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Lara at Saintchauncy@comcast.net

Hi, Meet Jack the Pug/Jack Russel mix. He is about 3 years old and very sweet. Jack is an extremely happy dog and tries to jump in your lap every chance he gets. He gets along well with the other 7 dogs in the house even though he is the smallest. He will attempt to chase the cats if given the chance but does not try to hurt them. Jack has the energy level of a Pug and would be happy with walks or playing in the yard. If you want a companion to cuddle with then Jack is your man although I do recommend that he only be placed with children over 10. Lucy
last modified on July 25, 2010
Lucy is the sweetest dog you will ever meet. She is believed to be a 6 year old American Bulldog mixed with perhaps a Boxer, but her breed doesn’t matter as she is the most loving dog ever. Lucy LOVES people and all she wants is to be pet, lie at your feet or near you and be loved. She is always ready for hugs, is playful and is good with kids. She is very quiet except when she gets excited. Then she breathes heavily and snorts a little, but it is very endearing. She is housebroken, never has accidents and does not chew. She likes going for short walks. She is a couch potato and prefers to lounge around the house, lying beside you quietly wherever you are. Lucy’s FAVORITE activity is going for car rides, and she could ride around all day with her head sticking out the window. She loves treats, and even though she gets super excited, she will take them gently from your hand. She doesn’t like other dogs but could possibly live with another easy-going male. She is good with cats though. She does not like being scolded, so she listens well and really just wants to please you and be loved. She is the PERFECT dog for anyone—a single person or family. Coco King
last modified on June 6, 2010
Coco was used as a breeding dog his whole life and now the breeder did not need him anymore so dropped him at the local shelter. He will be 9 years old in May. He is your typical "breeder" dog meaning he has had no socialization with humans and does not know how to enjoy people. He is not aggressive but will run from you. He is happy in his area of the house, rolling around on his dogbed and chewing on a bone with the one tooth he has left so he is a happy boy. He also loves chewing on a bone and the highlight of his day is eating. However when you enter his world he shuts down. He needs a home willing to accept him for who he is and not push him. He will come around as he already knows the routine here and has no issues with me picking him up and taking him out or petting him. He is great with other dogs as that is really all he knows. He has never had an accident in his area of the house. The new owner needs to be willing to give him a smaller area in the house and a smaller area outside so you can catch him. He really is so easy if you are willing to set your home up appropriately. If you think you are the special person that can open your home to him please email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Hello, my name is Jester! I am a solid 5 year old Bull Terrier who LOVES to have fun. I love to play with a tennis ball and trying to keep it away from my foster mom. My favorite is tug-a-war. I love going for walks. I like being around people and getting pet, boy that makes me sooo happy! I also like pillows- maybe too much as my foster mom keeps them away from me. I am crate trained and very quiet in my crate and truly do love to sleep in there. I am totally housebroken so if you tell me "outside" I know right what to do. I am a care free boy who loves other people and dogs, but I cannot live with cats. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Bronson
last modified on July 11, 2010
Bronson was picked up as a stray. It always amazes me that people would spend money to remove an eye but then not look for their dog when it gets lost. He is thought to be about 5 or 6 years old. He gets along great with dogs of all sizes. Bronson is a rather mellow boy. He is very loving and loves to be held and snuggle on the couch. He likes to go for walks and car rides. He is housebroken and knows to go outside, but we are working on the occasional marking by using a belly band. He does not even care it is on. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Baron
last modified on May 29, 2010
Unfortunately Baron had to be returned to us when they found out the new baby was allergic to him. They said he has been the best dog for the last 4 years and they are so sad. He is thought to be a Mastiff or Shepherd mix and is about 80 pounds. Baron is a great dog overall. He loves being outside. He likes going for walks and chilling out in the sun. Baron is also very obedient and is great with kids. He's very laid back, but does get excited when people come over for a visit. Baron is also a smart dog and picks up training tips quickly. He is crate trained and housebroken. If you're looking for a dog to go along with everyday routines or to try something new, you won't have any problem with Baron. Scooter
last modified on July 26, 2010
Scooter is a two-year-old purebred male, fawn-colored Lhasa Apso who was picked up a local animal control as a stray. The AC is quite familiar with Scooter since his previous family allowed him to run the neighborhood loose more than once. Scooter is very outgoing with people and other dogs and absolutely loves everyone he meets. When his foster family returns home, he sits politely waiting his turn to be greeted.
He wants to be with his humans and is loaded with personality, an always-smiling face and a constantly wagging tail. While he has lots of energy to play, he has a calm side and would be happy to keep you company curled on the couch. Scooter gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home and enjoys wrestling with them or happily chewing on a bone by himself. He is housebroken and crate trained but quite trustworthy if left alone loose in the house . We are uncertain if he lived with young children in his previous home, so we would rather place him in an adult home or a home with older children. He is roughly fourteen pounds, neutered, chipped, up to date on all routine vaccinations/testing and is currently being fostered in the southwestern suburbs of Chicago. His adoption fee is $225 and he will only be shown once a completed application has been received by the rescue. Applications can be found at www.ildoberescue.com. If you have any specific questions about Scooter, please email Lara at Saintchauncy@comcast.net

Niemi

This Malinois girl was picked up as a stray in Chicago. We think she is about 5 years old. Her foster mom named her after the Blackhawk goaltender Antti Niemi. Initially she was pretty timid but she immediately bonded to her foster mom following her around like a little shadow. She is getting used to the crate and will settle right down. We are hoping she’ll as successful at finding a new home as her namesake and his team have been this season. For more information please contact Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net.

Keena
last modified on June 17, 2010
Keena is a very sweet girl that was turned into the shelter. She is about 6 years old and a bit on the chubby side. Right now she is 50 pounds. She gets along with everything; children, dogs, cats and even horses. She is the sweetest thing. She has a huge smile at all times with a happy personality. She is very calm and mellow. She enjoys walks and does not pull on the leash. She did well on her car ride and is very easy going. She is being crated at night and when nobody is home due to the 2 male dogs in the home still adjusting to her. She is so laid back, that I am sure she would be fine having free roam in a home. She likes to lie by your feet or snuggle next to you on a couch. She has had no accidents in the house. She seems to have no interest in the cat or multiple parrots/birds in the home. She seems to like to walk around outside so a tie out or fence would work fine. She is not a jumper and seems to sit when told. She takes treats very well and sometimes will give you her paw. Overall, she is a very well behaved, sweet girl who really needs to find her "forever" home. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Menard
last modified on July 8, 2010
Our very handsome Mendard was so named because he was found in front of a Menards hardware store! He was trying to go into the store and the workers were shooing this friendly kitty away. Since Menard's foster-mom-to-be just happened to be heading into the store to shop, imagine her surprise when he ran right into her arms! Thus, he is now named Menard. The vet has since given Menard a clean bill of health and aged him at about 9 months old. He is extremely clean and extremely healthy! In his foster home, Menard plays with toys, purrs up a storm, and knows how to use his kitty box! He has all his claws, but he is very gentle with them. Menard is an active kitten who loves a good ball of string! This cat will run right up to anyone looking for attention including big dogs. His adoption fee is $50, which includes all medical. He has had the following done: vet exam, negative FIV/FELV test, dewormed, vaccinated including Rabies, negative for ear mites and fleas, neutered and microchipped with free registration. Please email alisecarrico@yahoo.com for more information.
DoberDuds: Dear Menard, DoberDuds for the most perfect kitty in the world! Love, Foster Mom Darla.

Holly
last modified on July 6, 2010
Holly is a cute 4-year-old, 20 pound Puggle that was turned into the shelter with her buddy, a purebred Pug. The listing said landlord said they cannot keep them. Holly is friendly and outgoing, a charming bundle of bouncy puppy-like energy that she steals the show. Holly loves attention and is very needy, following you all over the house. She is good on walks and loves to play fetch. She might be best with older children as she does like to jump on you and needs to work on a few manners such as taking food from you. Holly would do great in an active home as she loves to be part of action and fun. She gets along with other dogs but does not always want to share her stuff at home. She is not good with cats. In her foster home she was confined to a smaller area in the house and did fine but will bark when left. She is probably not the best dog for an apt but would love a fenced yard to play ball in. She knows some commands but really could use a brush up on obedience. She does sit up and wave when she wants something as well. These kittens were all rescued from a very high volume shelter. Ever since rescue, they have been living in the lap of luxury in a caring foster home. They are all female - 2 Torties and 1 Bl/Wh and they are about 4 mos. old. These little ones are all very social and loving. Actually, they are everything you could want in a kitten! Further, they all use the litter box like proper ladies. Their adoption fee is $90 each (or $170 for two) and this includes everything. Specifically, it includes: vet exam, negative FIV/FELV test, of-age spay at an approved vet, dewormings, age-appropriate vaccinations, negative for fleas and ear mites, and a microchip with free registration. last modified on June 26, 2010
Bella and Moon are assumed to be sisters but they were both picked up as strays together. The shelter felt unable to place them as they are so shy and fearful. Moon now enjoys all the employees at the kennel but meeting anyone new is very scary. She does love going for walks but must have a fenced yard as she would run if she got loose. She is great with other dogs so would be wonderful if placed with a family with a confident second dog. She is good with cats too. She is slowly coming around but will need a patient owner to build her confidence. She is only about 7 months old. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Max
last modified on July 25, 2010
Max is an adorable four- year-old solid black, purebred male Pomeranian. This ten-pound guy was owner surrendered to a local animal control, who then transferred him to IDR+. His previous owner claimed he would run away often, but clearly they were not doing a good job in keeping him safe on leash or in a securely fenced yard as he hasn’t made any attempts at escaping his foster home yet. After some checking of previous vet records--it was found that he suffered a broken leg (hit by a car) in 2006 and had his leg fixed. He clearly healed fine and walks perfectly fine and without discomfort. He is housebroken, good with other dogs as well as older children. Max is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and routine testing and is chipped. His adoption fee is $225. He is currently being fostered in a southwestern suburb of Chicago and will only be shown once a completed application has been received by the rescue. He is good with everyone, including children but he is very jumpy and energetic so maybe not good for the little ones. Caesar does know his basic commands and walks nicely on a leash When he has to go potty he goes and gets his leash… pretty cute. If interested email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

French Vanilla was taken as part of a cruelty case along with her 3 pups. She is a wonderful little girl but does have the typical Chihuahua behavior when meeting new people. It takes her just a minute to warm up and then she is fine. She is crate trained but cannot tell you if she is housebroken as she has been with her pups and not loose in the house. Vanilla is good with the other adult Chi she came with but has not been mingled with other dogs yet. She is an albino so does squint in sunlight but other then that she seems to be a healthy girl. Chunky Monkey is the last of the adorable Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream litter. Her mom is French Vanilla, an albino Chihuahua, and we believe dad was a Chihuahua too. Mom and pups were taken in by animal control as a cruelty case but all appeared healthy when I received them. They have been in foster care since they were 10 days old. They were born on 5/27/10 so she is about 9 weeks now. She was the smallest, but we have no idea who big she will get. The adoption fee is $400 and that will cover the spay when they are old enough. We will be taking a spay deposit as well. She will not be shipped. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Monty
last modified on July 20, 2010
Monty is a purebred French Bulldog. He is about 6 1/2 years old and just a cutie. The reason he needs to find a new home is because he cannot be with children and the family has a young child now. Monty is also not good with other dogs either. He really loves people though and gets really excited to see visitors and will sometimes submissively pee so he greets most visitors outside or the new people just need to ignore him. He is housebroken and crate trained and can do a regular workday. Monty loves snuggling up on the couch and he loves being as close to you as he can, he is very affectionate. He is also very curious, too. Whenever work is being done around the house, he's always right in my business, which is really humorous. He's very smart and listens extremely well when he's not distracted. He loves running in the yard and will play catch. He's not very good at it but he will chase a toy and bring it back to you. So he really would be best with a fenced yard to he can get the exercise he needs. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Molly
last modified on July 25, 2010
Molly was a grooming client of one of our volunteers. She had to be given up as the owner could no longer care for her. She wrote this note to the new owners. " This is hard for me. I love Molly very much. But, I am 88 years old and Molly needs more activity which I'm not capable of doing. She is only 3 1/2 years old. She needs a fenced yard and lots of loving. She's a very friendly dog that loves everybody." So as you can see was well loved but needs a more active home. She is good with other dogs. She only just arrived into her foster home so we will add more information once we get to know her better. We do know she is very chunky and she is now on a diet. Email Jane at wevmit@sbcglobal.net

Crusoe
last modified on July 25, 2010
My name is Crusoe. I am a two year old Great Dane and I am looking for my forever home. I was really underweight and sick when IDR+ took me in but thanks to lots of TLC I am feeling much much better now. I am still a bit too skinny but I am working hard on getting my boyish figure built back up. Even though I am told that Great Danes are like royalty because they used to sit at the feet of Kings, I am just a regular easy-going down to earth kinda guy. I love to play with my foster brothers and sisters. I haven't met anyone I didn't like, people or dogs. I even let my foster sister boss me around, even though I am royalty, it is the gentlemanly thing to do and I am working hard to learn how to be a perfect gentleman. I have a couple of chew toys that I enjoy and I know not to chew anything else. My foster mom says I am cute and smart....what a combo! My other favorite pastime is snuggling with my foster mom. So enough about me, how about you? Do you have room for a great guy like me in your family? If you think you might, and you have been approved by the IDR+ folks, then you can contact my foster mom at doberdogz@yahoo.com and she can hook us up. Looking forward to meeting you!

Mocha
last modified on October 22, 2009
Who doesn't love a good Mocha? They are rich, sweet and make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. That describes this little girl to a T. She loves to snuggle, just adores sitting next to you for petting and will even try to climb into your lap to get as close as she can. She gets along very well with the 6 other dogs she lives with both big and small. She feels that cats are squeaky toys meant to be chased so she should not live in a home with cats. Mocha is around 11 months old but still has all her puppy energy. She does like to chew, but is not bad, so she just needs lots of appropriate toys to satisfy her cravings. She is totally housetrained and has never had an accident in her foster mom's house even after being crated for a full work day or left out loose. This girl is as well behaved as dogs come and would be a wonderful addition to any household although I don't recommend that she be placed in a home with children under 10. She is up to date on all vaccines and is spayed. She has also attended basic obedience classes and has become the model student. She knows sit, down, stay, come and heel. If you would like to wake up to your very own Mocha each morning, please contact dobeagility77@sbcglobal.net for more information.

Max
last modified on October 24, 2009
Max is a gentle, 75-80 lb giant – beautiful, beautiful boy! By man’s standards, he should have checked out of here a couple of years ago. But thanks to his vet and it simply not being his time, he’s still with us. He had cancerous tumors and one vet recommended that he be put down and a young woman (another vet) said, “he has so much life left”. On that note, she administered some meds and Max has not had a problem since! His owner has to relocate to TX and just can’t take him along due to the nature of his job. There would be no one to take care Max. When it’s time to go out and take care of his business, he’ll definitely let you know, with a nudge and prancing around. When outside, before anything, he has a need to check the perimeter of the house from the back gate to the front, all directions! If there’s another animal (possum, squirrel or cat) in the yard, he’s going after it! He’s not too fond of other dogs. If they’re anywhere close, Max will start barking and the hair on his back will rise. Max enjoys his toys, especially his toy tire and he’ll play nice with you and his toys. He takes it with him everywhere that he goes. He has lots of character – when he wants to play, he’ll get in between your legs and just push until you rub his head. Toddlers make him a bit nervous – he’s not sure what to make of them. He does better with teens and adults. The funniest thing about Max is the way he sleeps – he put’s his left paw behind his head! Unbelievable! His snoring can be pretty loud sometimes – he looks and sounds human! Max really is a sweet, loving guy, who loves his rub downs and he gives plenty of licks of love. King
last modified on January 3, 2010
Hello! My name is King! I came into the Humane Society of the Lakes in Minnesota as a stray. I am a big boy but don't be fooled around here they say I'm nothing but a big baby! When I find my new home I need my new owners to know that it takes me a bit to warm up to new places and new people. I get very defensive if I am behind a fence and I see someone I don?t know. If you are interested in adopting me we will have to spend a lot of time together at the Humane Society! I am curious about kids but I would do best in a home with older or no children. I will also need some behavior training, and I am very protective of what I think is mine. I would love to find a home out in the country as I love to bark at things and I will need plenty of room to stretch my legs! I love to run through water, play fetch with toys, and my favorite thing is my very own bone to chew on! I am looking for a new beginning and although I have some special needs I would love to meet you and find out if you are a good fit for me! Email Rachel at rachel@hsofthelakes.org

Reese
last modified on February 12, 2010
Meet Mr. Reese! He initially was picked up as a stray and landed in a shelter where he was emaciated and in poor condition. He now looks fantastic and is ready for a new home. Whoever gets this goofy guy will have lots of entertainment. He absolutely loves the rope toy and likes to see how far he can throw it. He also loves to get a running start and slide on his butt if you have tile floor. Reese is about 3 or 4 years old. He is active, loving, and friendly with other dogs. He even brings the other dog's toys to him to play..won't even chew on them. He is great with kids too. He needs some obedience work, and his new foster mom is taking him to obedience classes in Indianapolis where he is fostered now. He is doing so well that he even sits everytime you open the fridge just in case a treat is coming. He is housebroken, and is doing very well with his lessons in house manners! He doesn't even need to be crated now! Oh and he is your typical Doberman who sits on steps with his rear higher than his feet. Or if you let him, he will put his rear on the couch and have his feet on the floor. Well you get the point, this guy is great so if you are looking for a friend follow the procedure below.
HE DOES REQUIRE A FENCE AS HE LOVES TO RUN AND PLAY ALOT. PLEASE FILL OUT APPLICATION PRIOR TO ANY PHONE CALLS PLEASE, OR SEND EMAIL, SEE OUR WEBSITE FOR ADOPTION INFORMATION WWW.NORTHCOASTDOBERMANRESCUE.ORG

Rudy
last modified on July 23, 2010
“Rudy” is a great little dog! Named for Notre Dame’s Rudy Rutiger for his size and tenacity, he was rescued by Evansville Animal Control as a stray. He is thought to be about 1 year old. Rudy is possibly an Australian Kelpie mix, according to several Kelpie breeders. This breed is known for having high energy levels and the need to have a job, and this describes Rudy perfectly. He is 32 pounds of PLAY. In his current foster home he lives with a Doberman, a Great Dane, and 4 cats. He loves everyone and his tail is always wagging. He would be too exuberant for an older dog or a dog that will not teach him manners. Our Great Dane is a female and told him right from the beginning to “behave” and he respects her. On the other hand, our male Doberman will not discipline him and as a consequence, Rudy play nips and jumps on the Doberman endlessly until the Dobe needs to be rescued. So Rudy would be great company for another rambunctious dog. He will not hurt any of our cats and only chases the ones who run away from him. As with the dogs, he respects the cats that stand their ground and leaves them alone. Rudy is currently enrolled in obedience and has learned “sit” and “down.” We still need to use either the Easy Walk harness or the prong collar to prevent him from pulling when we walk him, but we are working on it. We have been practicing with the neighborhood children to have Rudy either stand quietly or sit before anyone pays attention to him. Otherwise he will jump all over children and play nip, as this is his way of showing affection. He seems to love children the most as they are as active as he is. Rudy would do well in a home with a fenced-in yard so he can run. He loves his baby pool and chew toys. He is quiet and content in his crate with his rope chew and his kong, and this is where he spends most of his time when indoors, as he is so rambunctious. Once Rudy learns basic commands, the next class we were thinking of enrolling him in is agility. He shows no fear of tunnels, fences, or moving apparatuses and is able to leap several feet into the air. He once jumped over the Great Dane for no apparent reason other than the fun of it! There are some videos of him on YouTube if you would like to take a better look. The first one is of him playing in his pool. Rudy playing hin his poolThe second one is of Rudy learning to behave appropriately.

Beckham
last modified on June 29, 2010
Beckham is a 6 year young male Italian Greyhound. Beckham is a smallish IG and weighs about 10 pounds. He loves people and likes toys - whether they squeak or not. He will even bury a bone in his blanket to enjoy later. He is good with other dogs but gets a bit overwhelmed by over active play or big dogs. He would be fine as an only dog or with other small dogs. People really, really are his favorite. He is also OK with cats. Beckham sleeps through the night and is crate trained. Like any good IG, he likes to be covered when he naps and loves a soft spot. Potty habits are normal IG habits - he is OK with consistant monitoring and is also pee pad trained and can go on a leash. Beckham's idea of a great day is hanging out with his people, finding a nice spot to sit in the sun and watch out the window, and having a stuffie or two nearby. We're working on basic commands - he knows sit and we are working on others. Fortunately he can be sweet talked into doing what you want him to do. All in all, he is a very nice boy. Quite outgoing and very people oriented with a range of different vocalizations to help him communicate with his human friends. Beckham will make someone a loving, devoted companion. Beckham is being fostered in the Chicago area and will be adopted in-state or to a neighboring state. For more information including adoption application and policies and other available Italian Greyhounds, please visit www.midwestigrescue.com or you may email igcitng@sbcglobal.net

Shasta
last modified on July 7, 2010
Her name is Shasta, and she is a beautiful, smart, joyous, curious two year old Doberman. She was found as a stray by Animal Control. It is suspected that Shasta belonged to the ever growing number of dogs whose future begins and ends with today’s back yard breeders. Used exclusively to produce young, her life expectancy was already coming to a close after only two years. Were it not for some extraordinary circumstances, Shasta’s story would have ended like so many other mistreated dogs—in solitude, despair, and death. Fortunately, Shasta has been given a second chance at life. Shasta is a vibrant example of unspent energy. Freed from the bonds of parturition, all aspects of life are new and wondrous to her. In the short time with RPSM (Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan), she has shown remarkable development in her social skills and personality. She is crate trained, house broken, knows how to sit, and loves to lean against you when she get attention (common Doberman trait). In moments of excitement, she loves to show-off her adorable Doberman smile. She plays well with other dogs and acts very much like a puppy set free in a world of discovery. Do to the extreme isolation of her former life; anyone wishing to adopt Shasta will need to be sympathetic toward her few simple needs. An obedience deposit will be required in addition to the adoption fee; after completion of an obedience course the deposit will be refunded. Her adoption will require a fenced in yard, and because she is so energetic, with great enthusiasm for play, she requires children to older than ten. Though she can be a bit timid under unfamiliar circumstances, she is never aggressive. Shasta’s a quick learner and gives every indication that with a little obedience training, she will be an excellent companion for anyone. Give Shasta the future she deserves. She has spent all of her life thus far serving the avarice of dog peddlers. Open your heart and give her a new world where love and happiness are not illusory but reality. At only two years old, you can look forward to many rewarding moments with a beautiful, intelligent, and devoted companion. Show Shasta compassion and love by adopting her and giving her a home. Shasta is young, healthy, spayed, up to date on her vaccines, heartworm free, and micro-chipped. Please contact Cathy her foster mom: dobiedeer@yahoo.com

Chevy

My name is Chevy. I am a 7 year old, male, neutered yellow lab. My owner is going away to school and the only family member that can care for me is on disability. I love being with people, carrying my toys around and playing fetch. I love to run, but given the opportunity I will keep going, so I will need a fenced yard. I have great housemanners. I am housebroken and don't get on the furniture. My only bad trait is that if you leave food out I can't help myself and I have to eat it. I am good with other dogs and cats too.
