Feature Dog

Feature Dog: Hercules
last modified on March 9, 2010
Hercules Doesn't Hercules look handsome in his turquoise harness? Well, he is actually wearing that harness for a reason. Our five-year-old boy was found to have Wobblers Disease. (Please do a search on the Internet to learn more about this problem.) Even though Herc is exhibiting some classic symptoms like gait instability, he is still moving around just fine and he is a very happy man. Herc loves everyone and enjoys hanging out for petting. He is housebroken and not crated in his foster home and does just fine. He is good with other dogs and overall a great boy.
We have done the gold bead implant for him to help increase his chances for a better quality of life. However, it was very expensive. We raised most of the $1300 so went ahead to Dr. Durkes for his magic touch. If you still want to donate plese click on the link below. As is stated on Dr. Durkes' website, "The primary purpose of the gold bead implant is to prevent excessive vertebral movement of the cervical area of the neck. By preventing this excess movement, we reduce the inflammation of the spinal cord. The gold beads themselves will reduce inflammation of the cord and cause remodeling of the cervical vertebrae." To read more about Dr. Durkes and the gold bead implants click on the words below.
Herc is doing extremely well after his surgery and now needs a few more weeks of recovery and the wrap needs to come off (photos now on the site) and he will be ready for adoption. This boy is just the best. If interested in adopting Herc please email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Flyer
last modified on January 9, 2010
Flyer Flyer was brought in as a stray. It was soon discovered that he has possible Wobblers. He is unsteady on his feet and will stumble when he gets all excited and runs. We don’t know what the future holds for this boy but right now he is enjoying life to the fullest. If ever there was a happy boy, Flyer is it! He literally runs around the house smiling. He wants to be where all the action is whether it’s with the dogs or people. He insists on going out to play whenever any of his foster siblings go out. He LOVES tennis balls! He tends to be barky but that’s only because he is so excited to be with the family. He is very good in his crate but if you are home he wants to be with you. He enjoys running the fence to play with his Beagle neighbors. Flyer is very good in the house and likes to cuddle on the couch with his people. Does anyone out there want to open their heart to this very special boy? He is the very definition of a goof and you can’t help but smile when he looks at you. He is very good with dogs but cannot live with cats. For more information please contact Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net

Johnnie
last modified on February 5, 2010
Johnnie We will probably never know the extent of the neglect that Johnnie suffered in her previous home. Luckily for her, a caring animal control officer found her at the side of the road trying to eat dead carcasses. She was obviously very skinny, but it took years of neglect and abuse for her to get into the shape she is in. Hopefully, with an excellent diet, supplements and good medical care, we can give her as many good years as possible. She will not be available for adoption until we are better able to assess her medical condition. Sorry the photos are not very good but when you pull out a camera to take her photo, she thinks you are pulling out something horrible and hides.
10/26/09 Update: Johnnie is getting around much better now that she has been on a Glucosamine and natural anti-inflammatory supplement for a few months. She has also put on some much needed weight. She does LOVE her food and will do a little dance while you are getting her food ready. She also loves to lay in the sun (from inside the house, of course). But, don't let her age fool you. It didn't take her long to get the routine down. If it is raining in the least bit, she will not step foot outside, in typical Dobe fashion. But she will act like she has to go outside by running to the door. You open the door and she then steps backwards, but only as far back as the biscuit jar. And, I always oblige; she has me well trained. Unfortunately, we found out she has heartworms which she will now begin treatment for since she is now in a better position, health wise, to handle the treatment.

Saphire
last modified on February 25, 2010
Saphire Saphire was flown to us (Thank You, Pilots N Paws) from MS because none of the closer rescue groups had room to take her in and she had been at the shelter long enough. After her family moved and abandoned her, apparently she tried her best to stay alive by eating garbage. The neighbors didn't appreciate her resourcefulness and chased her away. One neighbor even attempted to shoot her. Consequently, she had become very untrusting of people. Now she is doing extemely well and wiggles her little butt for her foster mom. Saphire was named for being a very pretty blue Doberman who is about 2 yrs old and definitely on the more petite side. She was unfortunately found to have heartworm. She has been treated and will be ready in about a month. She seems to get along with other dogs but has not been mingled because she must stay quiet for her heartworm treatment. She is good with cats. She will need a family that is very patient and understanding and will allow her to get to know them at her own pace. She loves routine and prefers the crate or an area at first. She is crate trained and appears to be housebroken. She will not be placed in a home with children younger than 10 yrs old. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Sadie
last modified on March 10, 2010
Sadie Sometimes in IDR we come across a dog that just seems to be the living definition of rescue. One of our newest seniors, eight-year-old Sadie, is such a dog. She could hardly walk when coming into our rescue. We feel it is a combination of the old injury of a broken leg, hip dysplasia on one side and possibly some cervical issues. Though the owner did get her broken leg fixed, the reason for the break is shocking. His neighbor hit her with a large chain when he was mad that she came onto his property wanting to play with his dog. We have added in some supplements which really seemed to have helped her. Despite all this she is a very sweet, gentle girl who seems quite happy laying on a dog bed chewing on a bone. We have found a wonderful foster home for her but she is still waiting for her forever home. She just needs a nice bed in the corner of a quiet home. She can only do about 2 or 3 stairs so needs a home that only has that many to go potty. For more information, please contact Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Martin
last modified on February 25, 2010
Martin Martin was picked up as a stray and is a tall, lanky guy that is thought to be about 2 years old. He was walked through the cat room and seemed okay with them. He is quite the character, like a clown actually. He loves his rope toy and to throw it around. He’s full of energy and loves to play. He seems to know his basic commands but will need some training. He would be best suited for a home without young kids due to his energy level.
Update 2/14/2010: Martin has been with us about a month and a few weeks ago one of our volunteers saw he was limping. His limp went away but he still cried at times when he got up or just out of the blue. So we took him to our vet who x-rayed him and could not find anything really wrong with hips or legs however his spine seems to have something he calls lumbosacral instability. He said he has never seen it in a Dobe but all the time in Shepherds. He said in a sense it is like Wobblers but at the tail end of the spine and much more painful. He suggests just rest, anti inflammatory drugs and a home with no other dogs. The problem is he will be in pain on and off for the rest of his life. Lumbosacral stenosis has also been termed lumbosacral instability and cauda equina syndrome. All these terms describe arthritis of the joint between the last lumbar vertebra and the sacrum, which is one of the bones that makes up the pelvis. This arthritis narrows the canal through which the spinal cord and nerves pass through. The intervertebral disc between the vertebra and the sacrum is often abnormal as well, further narrowing the canal. The arthritis and disc disease put pressure on the nerves coming off the spinal cord. The symptoms of lumbosacral stenosis, then, are a result of nerve injury. The most common sign of cauda equina syndrome is pain. The pain may occur in the back, in one or both hind legs, or the tail. The dog usually has difficulty rising from lying down, but once he begins to walk about he works out of the stiffness. There may be muscle loss in one or both rear legs. Right now we are assessing him further. Email Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net

Dusty
last modified on March 1, 2010
Dusty Dusty was turned in to the shelter supposedly because he repeatedly was getting loose off his chain. Do you think not being neutered may have contributed to that? Dusty has been nothing but a wonderful, butt wiggling gentleman in his new foster home. Said to be about 7 yrs old, he is still quite active. And, outside of being heartworm positive, looks to be in good health otherwise. Because he is still new to our program, he has not been fully mingled with other dogs. But I can't imagine that he wouldn't do well as he does nothing but playbows to everyone. He is also good with cats. If you are looking for a Dobe that is beyond the crazy puppy stage, well behaved, and completely housebroken, this is your boy. This wonderful dog will be available for adoption after his heartworm treatment is completed which should be in about a month. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Sarge
last modified on March 8, 2010
Sarge Sarge was in a high kill shelter and a doberman lover pulled him in hopes he could get into a rescue group. So here he is and he is heartworm positive. We have had so many heartworm dogs over the last few months it is hard to keep up. He is a handsome boy with sweet soulful eyes. He is an extremely loving 4 to 5 year old who is friendly towards all people and seems okay with dogs too. We do not have him mingled as he must be kept quiet. He's the typical velcro dobe, wants human companionship and craves love and acceptance. He loves to put his head on your lap when you sit near him, and lean into you if you are standing next to him. He was great in the cars during transport, he's a total mush. Sarge is quite large weighing in at 80 pounds now but he is a good 10-15 pounds underweight. He is also a very clumsy guy. He has been treated for his heartworm and will be ready for a home in about a month. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Bumbles Bumbles is an adorable little guy. He was born 12/15/09 so he is about 3 months old. He is only about 13 pounds right now and on this thin side. He has a very sweet outgoing personality and just loves everyone. He is crate trained and working on housebreaking. Bumbles seems to have some kind of neurological deficit which makes him stumble around a bit and he will fall at times when playing. It does not slow him down any and he seems like a bright little fellow. He will be going to our vet to see what his assessment is. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Ruby Red
last modified on March 7, 2010
Ruby Red Ruby was confiscated with many other dogs from a hoarding situation. She is thought to be about 8 years old and a very sweet girl. She loves everyone she meets and will snuggle all day. She LOVES food and does a happy dance at meal time. Ruby is a low energy Doberman and coming from a hoarder, she is so excited to have her own soft dog bed to relax on. She spends most of the day there watching everything that goes on between naps. Ruby was recently diagnosed with degenerative spinal disease. There is no cure but she has started chiropratic treatment and is turning into a new dog. She used to have bad days with intense pain but she hasn't had one since she began treatment. Her only downfall due to the spinal issues is that she cannot hold her urine for a full work day but can go many hours with no problem. She would do best with someone gone 6 hours or less so there are no accidents. If you would like to give this girl a real loving home and her chance to "just be a dog", please contact Joanne at dobeagility77@sbcglobal.net or 309-732-1468 (e-mail responds quicker).

Ellie Ellie's nickname is SuperGirl because when she wants some attention she flies through the air and tries to jump in your lap. She loves to be kissed, hugged, and muttsaged. She snorts and giggles with delight. Too cute! She gets along with everyone, cats, and dogs,(large and small). She listens very well and is always trying to please you. Ellie loves her crate but does not need it as she is housebroken and not destructive.
Her little nub wags constantly, that is how she keeps her girlish figure, exercise! Definitely a "Red Hat Lady" at the age of 12 that has a lot of love left to give to someone who needs it. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Sarah
last modified on March 7, 2010
Sarah Poor Sarah(and Bowen)came to us with quite a sad story. She is 9 years old and spent her entire life living outside and having litter after litter. According to the owner she has had 11 litters and has never been to the vet. She got a pretty clean bill of health except for some mammary tumors and huge lick sore. She had a very costly mastectomy a few weeks ago due to the number of glands affected. She is recovering nicely and her lick sore is pretty much healed. She is a very happy and energetic girl and has many happy years ahead of her. If you would like to donate to the cost of her surgery please click on the link below. Sarah is ready for adoption now and feeling quite revived. She is good with other dogs and with cats. Sarah is now housebroken and is not crated in her foster home but is confined to an area when not home. Overall this girl is pretty easy and has no limitations that restrict her. She runs around like a youngster and is ready to show you that. She also smiles! Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Bowen
last modified on March 8, 2010
Bowen Talk about a rough start….. Bowen has lived his first 9 years as an intact male living with a female (Sarah) in a backyard, as a breeding pair. Since IDR+ does not discriminate against age or health, when Bowen came in he went straight to the veterinarian to be neutered and have some additional health issues taken care of. He is currently adjusting to life as a companion pet, in a house. He is a little shy and fearful, which is to be expected considering his whole world has been turned upside down. Surprisingly, he is not a garbage picker, a counter surfer, nor is he food aggressive. We are working on taking treats nicely, meaning he tends to grab and little fingers could get in the way, but he seems to understand what I want when I say “nice”. For Bowen, stairs are a challenge. Obviously he has never walked up/down flights of stairs so we are working on this. Think about it; your head is pointed down and your butt is in the air. I too would be scared. As far as sleeping arrangements, Bowen enjoys his crate, especially lying with his paws and head sticking out. When sleeping outside his crate he really loves being covered up with a blanket, giving a huge sigh as he settles in.
Currently, Bowen is living with 2 other Dobes, (1 male, 1 female) as well as 2 cats. He has very little prey drive, even towards the squirrels in our yard. Bowen seems to enjoy car rides and walks, and we are working on walking politely on a leash. Considering he probably never left his previous home’s backyard, he is doing extremely well learning this task, too. This dog is a friendly boy with tendencies towards smooshy, but he needs time to warm up to his people. And by the way, he has a wonderful big boy bark to let you know he is home, watching out for his beloved people. For additional information, please contact Sheila at mydoberkids@yahoo.com.

Princess
last modified on March 8, 2010
Princess Princess lost her home after 11 yrs when her owner died and was dropped off at a shelter. How very sad for her that there was no one in the family that could keep her. But that is a plus for IDR, we are very happy to have her in our rescue. Princess is now safe in her foster home. She is an all natural doberman lady, long soft ears and a long wagging tail. Princess was very well taken care of in her previous home and has no health issues and is in very good shape. She has the most beautiful and melting brown eyes that stare at you when she is getting petted. Even tho Princess has been in her foster home a short time she appears to be housebroken, has gone outside with her foster friends both large and small and gets along with everyone. Cats do not seem to phase her. She walks like a perfect lady on the leash, enjoys a car ride, eats her breakfast and dinner slowly and lady like. She is not crated but behind a baby gate which respects, laying on a big dog bed relaxing. Once she gets use to her new surroundings she most likely will have the whole house to enjoy. Princess will make her future forever home very proud to have this wonderful and sweet senior to enjoy each other for many years to come. Any questions or interest in adopting Princess, please email her foster mom Nancy at: gottahavedobes@yahoo.com. We look forward to hearing from you. THANKS SO MUCH!

Salem Salem was turned into animal control along with a smaller mixed dog saying that her area police officer told her that she needs to get rid of both dogs--and she is a bad owner and he'll call DCFS if she doesn't...Apparently she is fostering two little girls that she is trying to adopt. The stange thing is both dogs are great with kids so who knows if her story is true or not but either way this 9-year-old boy is now looking for a new home. She said he is great with children, other dogs and overall very easy. He is able to jump over a 3 foot fence so a higher fence or no fence is necessary to adopt him. He is in wonderful shape but very sad right now. If interested in our senior boy Salem email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Grayson
last modified on March 2, 2010
Grayson Grayson traveled all the way from TN to reach his bright new future thanks to IDR. And, he didn't arrive any too soon. Grayson is a petite, outgoing and very happy 3 year old. He does have the typical blue coat but that makes less to vacuum for you. He has grown a bit of the coat back since arriving as he is now on a quality diet and has had a few baths, which he does enjoy with an end result of having a nice "blue coat". Grayson has been in his new foster home for a short time, meeting his new foster friends with a slow introduction and has blended in very nicely. He enjoys playing with other dogs out side in the yard. He is good with cats too, they don't even phase him. Upon his arrival we noticed he has a strange walk and looks a bit misaligned. An x-ray showed he had an old trauma to his leg. The broken bone did appear fixed but his hip was a bit off. After our vet started the surgery and opened him up to do the FHO, he found out it was repaired with a biceps femoris flap surgery. He told us that he did not want to ruin the old surgery by doing an FHO. He does not believe he will be able to help him better than he is. He does use his leg but some times he favors it. This does not bother or get in Grayson's way at all. He has no problem going down steps to go outside to play. We do have him on supplements to lubricate the joint. Our vet believes we should leave him the way he is as he gets around fine and seems quite happy. Grayson is a very sweet and loving boy, he enjoys putting his head on your lap for petting and scratching. He is crate trained, but does not like it for a full work day, he does sleep peacefully in his crate at night time, he even sleeps in a cute way with his head almost backwards (photo included). He should not require crating forever, once he gets into his new home, we recommend crating until he gets a feel for things and his new enviorment. Grayson appears to be housebroken, but since he is has only been in his foster home a short time he has has some accidents, which I know this will be well under control in no time. (Have a petsitter who comes everyday to let the "crew" out). He loves toys, especially nylon bones to chew on while he relaxes on his favorite dog bed. He is a really cute boy with adorable antics and big brown eyes. Grayson rides very nice in the car, he really enjoy's the ride. Grayson also loves to go for walks, he does not pull at all on his leash, just loves looking around and smelling everything on his way. Grayson has a lot of energy (and what 3 year old doberman doesn't!) so I feel it would benefit all involved to take him to training classes, he would love it! Please feel free to contact his foster mom, Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net. Grayson is patiently waiting for his forever home where he can share so much love that he has to offer.

Gunnar
last modified on January 25, 2010
Gunnar Gunnar is an adorable, fun-loving young doberteen that loves everyone he meets. He is such an affectionate guy, wanting to be near you and get plenty of loving and scratches. He is so cute shaking and tossing his stuffed hedgehog and he also enjoys bones and other chew toys. Gunnar does need a bit of a job to do since he has LOTS of energy and likes to burn that chasing all little critters that move -- squirrels, rabbits, ground squirrels . . . . they all kind of drive him crazy but in a happy way. Definitely no cats or other little critters for Gunnar but he does well with other dogs, males and females, including medium-sized dogs. He could go to a single dog household or share with other dogs and would do best with a person willing to spend some time perfecting his obedience skills. We are working on those now including better leash manners and he would really enjoy continuing this training as he loves the one-on-one time. Gunnar will not be placed in a home with children since he can easily get over-stimulated and tends to get mouthy. He also would not work well in an apartment setting since he sometimes likes to "hear himself talk" (and is quite the chatterbox) when he's crated. This is much less of a problem when his mind has been exercised along with his body. He does crate well though and is pretty much housebroken although I would suggest supervision at first. Luke
last modified on March 9, 2010
Luke Luke is just over 1 year old that was "rescued" but his owner did not insure that his other dogs allowed Luke to eat. Consequently, he was severely malnourished when he arrived.
He is totally filled out now and is a handsome dober dude with beautiful golden eyes. "Mr. All Mine" can be quite possessive of his food with other dogs (never with people) and is fed separately. Luke loves to play, play, play. He play bows to the cats (they won't play, the snobs)so he tries to play with all of the other dogs. Sometimes they will but if not, well, then a person will do. If no one will play with him then he entertains himself. When he is tired he curls up for a nap. He follows you everywhere, and is a little shadow. Loves everyone! And he is easy to love back! He has learned to sit for his cookie and for his food to be served so he is a quick learner. And housebroken! He does need some manners as he jumps on people, doesn't always listen but he is still a puppy in a big dog body. Just needs an owner willing to work with him as nobody has taught him how to properly behave.Luke is anxious to find his forever home in time for Spring so he can enjoy playing in the nice weather with his new owner (another doggy buddy would be great, too!. The one thing that is strange is no matter how happy this boy is he has never wagged his little nub. Will you be the family that gets him to wag it? Bart
last modified on March 7, 2010
Bart "Don't have a cow, man!" If our Bart could talk, he'd probably sound a heck of a lot like Bart Simpson. Actually, if our Bart was a cartoon character, he'd probably BE a lot like Bart Simpson. Our Bart is a young, mischievous, rebel too. But Bart also has a warm, caring side and is really longing to have his own family to love. He can't promise to always be a good boy, but he can promise to put a smile on your face every day.
Bart has the brain of a silly puppy, housed in the body of a big, boisterous teenage dog. In other words, he's a pretty typical 11 month old doberboy. He needs a home where he can get ample exercise, either a securely fenced yard with room to run, a human who will take him to doggie daycare to play, or some other means to get the exercise that he needs at his young age. He also needs a structured, group obedience class where his new owners can learn to use positive reinforcement to teach Bart some manners and basic house rules. We won't gloss over our boy's bad habits--if he had opposable thumbs, we'd send him to the chalkboard to write, "I will not jump on people, even when I REALLY wanna say hi." "I will not get mouthy, I will not herd feet, even though it's really hard when I'm all excited." "I will not bark at other dogs that I want to meet when I'm out on a walk." Since writing on the chalkboard won't work for our Bart, we'll require whoever adopts him to take him to an obedience class instead. While most experienced dog owners will find Bart's antics amusing, he's a bit too young and wild to live with small human children, so he'll need a home with all adults and/or older children. Bart will do best with an owner that can laugh at a dog that sometimes tells him to eat his shorts, but who can stifle his laughter long enough to enforce the rules anyway. On a side note, he loves the goats he lives with!!! Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Maxwell Maxwell is an adorable smaller blue boy that came in as a stray. He is about 10 months old and all puppy. He is constantly wiggling and seems happy about everything. He came to us very thin so we are working on getting some weight on him. He only just arrived in his foster home. He gets along with all dogs and really just loves to play. He is also fine with cats. He is well behaved, but being a puppy needs lots of exercise and mental stimulation. Maxwell has all this bottled up energy that he wants to put to good use. He is just begging to go to an obedience class so an obedience deposit is required to adopt him. This is a small boy, with a huge heart that just aims to please. Scrappy Scrappy is a cute 1 1/2 year old boy that was surrendered to the shelter. He does appear to be a mix with a wider head and stockier, shorter body but we just couldn't turn him down. He is a very sweet and calm boy for his age. He was great at our adoptathon with everyone. He is good with other dogs. Scrappy is crate trained but he has not crated in my home, only confined and has no issues. So far has been a very easy guest. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Patrick Patrick is about 1 ½ years old and one happy boy. In fact, he will give you a great big smile to show you how happy he really is. He loves to play with people and dogs. His roommate Kiri wasn’t so sure about him at first but now they are best buds. So far he seems fine with the cats too. Patrick is very good in his crate when he loose in the house he likes to pull all the blankets out of the crates and arrange them around. He is just starting to learn what toys are, his favorites so far are rope toys and beef bones. He is very puppy like and will need to go to obedience class to learn some doggie manners and how to walk nicely on the leash. For more information please contact Sandy at siouxland@comcast.net

Comet

Comet Sometimes the name says it all. Comet is a very rambunctious ready to explore doberteen. He loves to play, play, play. Did I mention he loves to play? It seems like he never met a dog or a person he didn't like. Be prepared for the typical doberlean once he gets to know you. Although very good natured and fun loving Comet has not learned any manners and will require a obedience deposit. Because of all his youthful exuberance at 1 1/2 years old he may be a bit much for homes with small children or cats. A free spirit like his will need someone willing to work with this good boy because he needs to learn all the basics. If you would like to learn more about this shooting star email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Please note Comet is in a kennel as we just do not have enough foster homes for all the orphans. It costs $240 dollars per month to house him. If you would like to donate toward his boarding and food please click on the link below.

Major

Major Animal control was called regarding a loose dog. When they arrived, they found several young guys calling their dog and trying to get him to come home. When "Major" refused to come to them, the owners told animal control to take the dog away. Because of Major's hesitation to return to his owners and because he is hand shy, I can only guess that his previous owners were abusive. Thought to be about 1 year old, he is still very much a puppy and full of energy. He can also be reluctant to approach new people. But, he is a very happy, loving Doberteen that, with a little patience and training, will be a wonderful companion. As he is still very new to our program, we will add more to his bio as we get to know him better. If you would like additional information about Major, contact his foster Mom at Rdobe1@aol.com AFTER completing our adoption application.

Diesel
last modified on March 9, 2010
Diesel Diesel was brought in as a stray but the previous owners were located. When the shelter workers asked them about him they denied it was their dog. The local groomer, however, knew the dog and the owners. We continue to remain shocked at people's cold heartedness. The only good thing to come out of this is he will get a wonderful new start with IDR. So are you looking for an instant best friend? Don't look any further! Diesel is an energetic young male, around 1 year old, who absolutely adores everyone he meets and is always ready to play! His tail wags as much as he wants to play, jump and paw. He's also quite the leaner and enjoys snuggletime. He also appears friendly with other dogs but could use some manners on introductions and needs supervision. Diesel has a decent sit and walks very nicely on a prong collar but he has lots to learn. With some training and leadership, this handsome guy would make a very fun and energetic companion! Fonzie Fonzi and Kaiser were turned into the shelter together because their owner could not afford them anymore. Fonzi is 6 years old and as sweet as they come. He and Kaiser really do enjoy being with each other. Fonzi is quite laid back and very easy. He is crate trained but it does not appear he would need to be in his home as he does nothing wrong. He is housebroken. He seems to be good with other dogs but he has not been fully mingled. He did come to us with a large lick sore so we are currently working on healing that. last modified on March 9, 2010
Harpo Harpo is a 5-year-old, 80 pound boy that was surrendered to a shelter saying they could not care for him. They had him for a year and a half, said he is housetrained, likes some other dogs and is a good boy overall. The owners did say he does need to exercise each day or sometimes gets naughty but what dog doesn't without proper exercise? Harpo would probably do best as an only dog or with slightly older canine companions as puppy antics seem to be a bit much for him. He is new to his foster home so we will update his bio and photos as we get to know him better. We can tell you that he is unsteady on hardwood/laminate flooring so he will do best in a home with carpet or plenty of area rugs. He also does not like to be crated but will respect babygates. He was turned in because the husband tried to commit suicide and is in the hospital and the wife just could not deal with everything. He likes other dogs and lived with 5 kids. He was extremely skinny coming in so we are working on getting some weight on him. He can be a bit shy at times but overall a very sweet and easy going boy. Lance Lance was surrendered to a KY shelter by his very elderly owner, who was no longer able to care for him. About 6 yrs old, he had been well cared for and loved. One of the worst fears of most pet lovers is that, for one reason or another, we are no longer able to care for our beloved pets. Thankfully, ILDR+ was there to commit to helping Lance find another wonderful home. A very happy, well behaved boy, he is a constant butt wiggler, who loves nothing more than to look at you longingly as you talk to him. Although still very active, a more calm home would probably work best for him since that is what he is most used to. Polo Polo is a very sweet 2 year old red. Polo is truly a dedicated family man who loves to be where the action is. If you're watching television or reading a book he will be right along side you. Polo is intelligent, learns quickly and knows many words and commands. You can even set a treat on top of his nose, tell him to "wait" and when you say "o.k" he catches it in his mouth! Polo has fine table manners. He will sit and wait until you say "o.k." after filling his bowl with food! Polo loves to play catch with a ball or rope and likes goiong for walks. Sometimes Polo can be a bit clumsy. Every once in a while, you'll notice his foot on top of yours and need to say, "Polo, move silly". Polo loves to sleep with a blanket and enjoys being tucked in. He does NOT have separation anxiety and can be trusted home alone without the use of a crate. Polo is housebroken and will let you know when he has to go potty. He is protective of his home and yard so he would not be good for a busy home where people just come and go without knocking at the door. He is good with other dogs and good with cats. Penny
last modified on February 23, 2010
Penny STOP! Pleeease don’t scroll past me. Find out more about me. Yes, I know I don’t look like a typical Doberman, but no dog could be more Doberman than I am. I am your typical Velcro Doberman, wherever you go, you will find me right by your side. If she sits and watches TV, I sit right next to her with my head on her shoulder. When she comes home from being away, I wiggle my tail so hard that my whole body wiggles. She says she doesn’t know how my tail can wiggle so fast. I live with another dog and a cat, and we all get along well but I do like to be the boss and I would not mind being an only pet either. When we go for walks I am very polite to new people and dogs that I meet. My favorite time of day is meal time. I do a “happy dance” while I’m waiting to be fed. I also love to chew on bones, which I do standing up, and I have a Kong that I carry with me wherever I go. Of course I love it when my foster mom puts treats in it, but I also love carrying it around when it is empty. There are times I even try to bark while it is in my mouth. Are you looking for an interior decorator? Look no further. I love to rearrange dog beds, throw rugs, blankets, and occasionally furniture. I like to put things just so to lie on them. My foster mom keeps putting everything back, so I just have to rearrange again, you would think she would be trained by now! I am also quite fashionable. Have you noticed my beautiful blue eyes? Did you also notice that my blue collar brings out the blue in my eyes? Not every Doberman has beautiful blue eyes like mine. You may have read or heard that Albino Dobermans have sight and hearing problems. Not me, at least nothing serious! I do squint in bright sunlight, but who doesn’t? Sometimes I will jump or act like I want to chase vehicles that drive by. When I’m squinting in the bright sun it is hard to tell what is driving by, but I see every squirrel and bunny in the yard or out on walks. I would love to chase them, but my foster mom won’t let me. I am about six years old, and am very happy and wiggly. Although I love my foster family, I would really like to find my forever home with a family of my very own. I am a very easy dog. I am crate trained, but am loose at my foster mom’s home. I can handle a nine-hour work day, which is hard for dogs and people, but now my foster mom is able to come home during the day so I only have to go four or five hours without a potty break. I like to ride in the car, and although I love going for walks and playing, there are times I like to just sit back and relax. So if you are looking for a happy, wiggly, “Velcro” dog who loves to be by your side email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net (There are no children in my foster home, so I’m not sure how I would act around them).

Kaylee Kaylee has been in her foster home since we picked her up in Aug 09'. Her personality will steal your heart in just minutes. She was picked up as a stray, so we are estimating her birthday to be around Nov 08'. Since she can't tell us about her previous life, what we do know is this, Kaylee loves everyone!! She, is a cuddler & a snuggler... loves to be by her people. Kaylee, is housebroken. She is crated or blocked during the a normal workday. At night, she sleeps uncrated in the bedroom. She will do better in a home with older kids, as she is still a bit jumpy. She has loved all her foster bother/sisters from young puppies to the seniors. Being very energetic & playing on the rougher side, an older male dog would be the best fit for her. She loves being outside, chase is a favorite, so a fenced yard would be a plus for this girl. She will also make a great jogging partner. Being on the younger side, we still have some issues that do need to worked on, she does not always have the best house or leash manners, so obedience classes are required. Poor baby, also doesn't do so well with car rides as she does get sick, even with short distances. With patience & love, Kaylee will make a wonderful addition to your family, she'll bring plenty of kisses!! Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

I do recommend training classes when she is adopted. She walks nicely on a leash. Bailey has a ton of energy and would probably make a great running partner. We have been told that she is very interested in the cats, so her future forever home should be without cats. Bailey is completely housebroken. Kasey
last modified on March 2, 2010
Kasey Kasey is a very sweet girl that spent her entire life living in a kennel run with another dog. She has the hip sores to prove it. In all the years of doing rescue we have never seen hip sores this large. She is now resting comfortably on a dog bed and has recovered from her heartworm treatment. She is 6 years old and ready for a new start on a comfy bed. Kasey is not very dog social, she gets nervous and tends to try to be bossy. She would probably be best as an only dog, where she can get 100% of the attention, but she may be fine with a large male dog. She doesn't like small dogs at all, and crazy "doberteens" aren't really her thing either. She is fine with cats though, and completely ignores them. She's completely housebroken, doesn't need to be crated, and can manage a full work day just fine. She is perfectly happy with a nice comfy dog bed and lots of head pats, which she begs for. She will rest her head on your lap for hours if you let her. She has the cutest little habit of play bowing and pawing in the air whenever people enter the room. Sometimes she even carries around a stuffed toy. She knows her basic commands and is very well mannered, but we are recommending an obedience class mainly as a confidence booster. She will also need a home with positive reinforcement to build her confidence. Her spirit is broken and we know there is a loving home out there that is going to give her a new start. Kiri Kiri was picked up as a stray. She is about 5 years. When she first came in she wasn’t feeling good and was quite grumpy with her foster siblings. Once she started feeling better she has started taking all her toys out of the toy box to play with. She liked to spread them all around her room. However, now that she shares a room with one of her foster brothers she prefers to steal all the toys and put them in her crate. She doesn’t seem to mind her brother going in to get them. Out in the yard she loves to run, run, run. You know it’s time for her to come in when she is on the deck giving a few barks. She is fairly quiet in the house but will bark quite a bit when it is meal time. She is a bit shy with new people and would prefer a quieter home. She could share her home with a male dog but would probably prefer to be the only dog. She is housebroken and crates well. No cats for this girl. Isis Isis was picked up as a stray and thought to be about 3 to 4 years old. This adorable girl soaks in every second of attention she can get. She is very loving and affectionate. She is fine with other dogs as long as she is slowly introduced. She loves running around the yard with a buddy, and enjoys a good wrestle in the snow. She cannot live with cats. But what Isis really loves is her people, in typical velcro-dobe fashion. She will sit for as long as you are petting her. Once you stop, she will gently nuzzle her nose under your arm, forcing you to pet her some more! She does not go on the furniture, would rather have a dog bed placed where all the activity is going on. Isis seems great with kids, is careful of their where-abouts, and should be fine with kids 6yrs or older. Isis is housebroken, knows a few basic commands and is just waiting for that forever home to fine tune her manners. A basic obedience class is highly recommended for her. Josh
last modified on March 9, 2010
Josh Josh was born on 11/5/09, so just turned 4 months. He was given up by a family with several young children when they decided it was too difficult raising children and a puppy at the same time. I may be biased, but I think Josh is one of the cutest little pups I have seen in a long time. He is working very hard at his housebreaking skills, already knows how to sit, and sleeps just as hard as he plays. Did I mention he also likes to test out his lung capacity. But that is to be expected with a puppy this young that is learning what the world entails. He's not yet convinced that being quiet in a crate is a good thing, but we're working on that. Josh is a resilient, social little guy who just loves life. He seems to love everyone he meets. He also tries to get every dog he meets, both large & small, to play with him. He is being fostered in a home with several dogs and really would do best in a home with at least 1 other dog for him to play with. I participate in agility with my own dogs and don't say this too often, but he would be a wonderful choice for someone looking for an agility prospect. He is very food and toy motivated and really wants to work with you. Even if something not so great happens to him, he seems to shake it off right away and gets right back to whatever it was he was doing. We are working on his basic training and socialization, and he will need a person/family that realistically knows the time and work it takes to make a puppy into a wonderful companion and will continue with what we at IDR have started. As his former home realized, both puppies and young children demand a significant amount of time. We will not set Josh up to fail, so he will not be adopted out to a home with very young children. Josh will require an obedience deposit and will require a positive reinforement puppy and/or basic obedience class. Josh will require a home with a physical fence and will not be adopted to a home with an electronic fence, nor will he be adopted to someone who wishes to use an electronic/shock collar for training. For more information about Josh, please contact his foster Mom, Amy at amyndobes@sbcglobal.net, AFTER completing an adoption application.

Bella
last modified on February 22, 2010
Bella Bella is a sweet and adorable eleven-pound Brussels Griffon mix. She is two to three years old and seems to bond with one person at a time, but that bond is amazingly strong and she desperately wants to please. Bella was given up when the owner’s brother moved in and he did not like dogs, but it’s also pretty clear she doesn’t trust men either and is best suited in a home with no children. Bella is great with other dogs of all sizes and with cats but seeks out smaller dogs for playtime. Since arriving in her foster home, Bella has immediately made herself comfortable but took several days to warm to her foster mom. Once she felt safe, she became glued to my side. The men in the house took several months to be accepted, but she does tolerate them even within a few weeks and doesn’t want to upset them either. A man living in the home would need to be patient with this girl but she is well worth the effort and with patience she will come around. Men who come and go would probably never be fully trusted and she would simply keep her distance. Bella is fully housebroken, crate trained, relatively calm and quiet but thoroughly enjoys playing with other small dogs in the house. She is fine with dogs of all ages and sizes and is no pushover either holding her own when playing once she feels comfortable with the other dog. She loves to curl on the couch at night and absolutely thinks “her” human hung the moon. I have never seen a dog this utterly devoted. Bella is currently taking a basic obedience course and her next family would need to continue with formal obedience work as well. If there is a man in the home, it would be best if he could be the handler during the training as this seems to be building her confidence towards men. If you are interested in Bella, please complete an application which can be found under the Adoption Process section of our website. She is currently being fostered in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, she is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations and her adoption fee is $225. Tracker
last modified on March 9, 2010
Tracker Tracker is an adorable wiggly boy who is around a year old and we believe is a chihuahua/dachshund mix weighing about twelve pounds. He generally gets along with everyone he meets and just wants to play. He has a quiet side and will snuggle on his foster mom’s lap for some ear rubs but once done he prefers his dog bed or gnawing on a Nylabone. He crates very well and seeks out time in his crate, rides easily in a car if crated, can go a full workday without going outside and enjoys playing with other dogs of all sizes if allowed an introductory period of a week or two and is absolutely not one for dog parks. While he gets along well with people, he can be rough in play and because of this will be adopted to a home with adults only. Tracker loves to make the humans around him happy and recently passed his formal basic obedience course, so he heels beautifully, sits patiently and will also lie down. However his new family will need to work with him in a required obedience course as well so he learns to understand and trust his new humans. He is completely housebroken and even makes sure to let you know when he needs to be taken outside. Tracker is a fairly quiet boy and not a typical yappy little dog by any means. He doesn’t understand toys but does love a chew stick in the evenings and takes treats gently when offered. He is neutered and up to date on all of his vaccinations and routine tests. Tracker’s adoption fee is $225 and he is being fostered in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Lara at Saintchauncy@comcast.net

Jack Hi, Meet Jack the Pug/Jack Russel mix. He is about 3 years old and very sweet. Jack is an extremely happy dog and tries to jump in your lap every chance he gets. He gets along well with the other 7 dogs in the house even though he is the smallest. He will attempt to chase the cats if given the chance but does not try to hurt them. Jack has the energy level of a Pug and would be happy with walks or playing in the yard. If you want a companion to cuddle with then Jack is your man although I do recommend that he only be placed with children over 10. Coda

Coda Coda was adopted from our organization as a puppy and had to be returned. The owner and her small children had to move back home with her parents and there just is not room for Coda. He is a 4-1/2 year old and thought to be a Catahoula mix. He is very loving and has lots of energy. He gets along with cats, dogs and children. He respects his invisible fence but might jump a traditional fence. He knows his basic commands and he is housebroken. He is looking for a new home that will give him the love, attention and exercise he needs. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Wild Rose Check out the markings on our Wild Rose's back! Aren't they just too fun? This little female kitten's pregnant mother was rescued from a high volume shelter. While born in a loving foster home, Wild Rose has grown up under an umbrella of love and care. She is the largest female in the litter and has an attitude to match. Wild Rose is a classy girl who thinks she is prettier and more mature than the others. Also, Rose is calmer and loves to be pet. She will even roll over for a special tummy rub! She also uses her litter box like a lady. Her adoption fee is $90, which includes the following: vet exam with a clean bill of health, negative FIV/FELV testing, of age spay/neuter, fecal, deworming, age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchip including registration. This medical work is all done! Wild Rose is ready to bring some wonderful color to your home immediately! Please email alisecarrico@yahoo.com for more information.

Little Mac

Little Mac While this kitten's pregnant mother was rescued from a high volume shelter, her kitten, Little Mac, has also become known as "Mr. Nosy." He is always the first one to come to the food dish at feeding time, climb, jump, or by any means necessary. When he is bored of playing with the others, he will come and nose around anything that you do or climb all over you. When you are eating, he will sniff you and watch you chew up and close. Little Mac is also curious about his litter box and regularly uses it like a gentleman. His adoption fee is $90, which includes the following: vet exam with a clean bill of health, negative FIV/FELV testing, of age neuter, fecal, deworming, age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchip including registration. (Please note the cost of Mac's neuter surgery is included in his adoption fee if he is taken to an approved vet. If the adopter prefers to use a private vet, a portion of the adoption fee will be refunded upon proof.) Little Mac is ready to investigate your home today! Fifty

Fifty This guy is amazing! Fifty is a 2 legged Pit bull that sadly was shot and had to have two limbs amputated. Only feel sorry for a moment as he is a happy go lucky guy that gets around just fine. What is so very sad about this story is how he ended up homeless. His owners did take good care of him and spent $5000 to help him after he was shot and then a year later ended up homeless. As we all know, apartments ban certain breeds and Pit Bulls are the most common breed to ban. His family had no choice but to move into an apartment and leave Fifty behind. Just another sad case of looking at the breed and not the dog and owner. To view Fifty's special video click on the link below.

So Fifty is ready for his new home now. He is very dog friendly, both large and small dogs. He is housebroken and does not need to be crated. Fifty must have a fenced yard so walks are not his only means of exercise and for pottying. It is much easier for him to move as his own pace. He also cannot do more then about 2 steps to go to out to potty so a ranch house is a must. You could not find an easier boy to own. He loves EVERYONE but can be a bit too mouthy and excited for young children. For more information email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Princess Princess was surrendered, along with her "brother" Rusty, when her owner became unemployed and had to move to that infamous state that doesn't allow any dogs. Princess was said to be a Rottweiler but we believe that she is a mix. But a cute mix, nonetheless. She is a very happy 1yr old, good with other dogs, and just wants to be loving and kissing on you at all times. If you are interested in additional information, contact her foster Mom at Rdobe1@aol.com AFTER completing an adoption application.

Dooley
last modified on March 2, 2010
Dooley IDR took in quite a few little dogs to help out another rescue that was just being flooded by dogs. They had to keep them outside and just didn’t have many adopters where they are. We knew if we took them in we could find some wonderful homes. Dooley is an absolutely adorable little Toy Poodle mix. Now that he is in a foster home he has been provided with much needed TLC and a lap to sit on, and boy does he really really love to be on your lap, he cuddles with you for as much petting and loving as you can give him. He came in to our rescue extremely matted and had to be shaved down, and now his coat is a soft and silky poodle cut. He is 7 pounds and about 6 or 7 years old. He does not need to be crated at all, but will crate nicely if needed, also respects a baby gate. For the time he has been in his foster home he appears to be housebroken. Dooley goes out side with all his foster friends, does his business and right back inside. Dooley will fit into any family situation, however, I would perfer him with children over 10 yrs old due to his small size. He does have an issue with dogs bigger them him but gets along well with the smaller size foster dogs, he'll chase a cat or bark because he wants to play. Please contact his foster mom, Nancy via email to gottahavedobes@yahoo.com. for any questions or interest in providing Dooley with his forever home. Thank you so much for reading about him, we are looking forward to talking with you.

Ziggy

Ziggy Maybe we should consider changing little Ziggy's name to something more exciting like "Ziggy Stardust?" His speckling of salt-and-pepper coat looks like it could even be "stardust." And, the Ziggy Stardust character from the famous song referred to an alien who tried to bring a message of hope to humanity. Since hope is what this little guy has found with IDR, it seems very appropriate! Ziggy is an approximately seven-year-old Terrier mix who was lucky enough to be "rescued" from another rescue. In other words, IDR+ had the capacity to help out another rescue who was not only getting flooded by new dogs coming in, but who also had to resort to using outdoor crating space. They simply did not have the room to accommodate such a large volume of animals. Ziggy is a tiny little guy at only twelve pounds who crates like a gentleman. He is also very good with other dogs, both big and small. Fore more information about bringing some "stardust" into your future, contact Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Dillion When Dillon first encountered all the loud barking and strange smells of the shelter, he was confused. Then, when his owners turned and left him there, he became very scared. Poor Dillon had no way of knowing that his owners had lost their home and were moving into an apartment without him. But, what is most confusing about this story is why didn't Dillon's owners just call IDR to return him? Dillon was first adopted from us as a puppy and he is now back safe in our foster program where he belongs. And, what a great dog! At 1.5 years of age, this young Hound/Spaniel mix is about 60 pounds and loves to play with other dogs. He is also good with cats. Dillon is also housebroken and can be left un-crated when alone. He is also a SNUGGLE BUG and will cuddle on the couch for hours. Please email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net for more information on this wonderful puppy.

Winston Winston was turned into the shelter because the owner was moving into with her boyfriend who already had a dog and apparently Winston does not like other dogs. In his foster home he is doing okay with them but he is being mingled very slowly. He is extremely shy and gets worried very easily. He will not be placed with children. He is looking for a calm, settled home as he will not adapt easily to changes. Once he knows you he enjoys being pet and will wag his little tail for you. He has not had any accidents and does not appear to be a chewer. If you think you are the right home for Winston please fill out an application which can be found on our site. Otto

Otto Otto is a purebred Pomeranian. He is a little on the large size, weighing in at about 17lbs. and is thought to be about 2 yrs. old. He is a very handsome boy with a beautiful red coat and cream colored markings on his face and chest. He does have a patch of hair loss on his back which we think is road rash since it appears he may have been hit by a car, but his tail covers that nicely. Otto is a very happy guy. He gets along with large and small dogs of both genders. He does try to chase the cats, but really only wants to play. He does appear to be housebroken and has not had any accidents in the house. He is crate trained and sleeps through the night without a sound. Now how could someone let this guy go and on top of it he came in with a broken back leg. Poor guy!
Otto has had some tough breaks in life, but he continues to be a ray of sunshine to all he meets. His broken leg required extremely serious surgery. As a result, his vet bills have been very high. He is recovering nicely. If you would like to adopt this beautiful guy or make a donation toward his expensive surgery please email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Ted
last modified on February 14, 2010
Ted Ted is a very sweet laid-back Basset mix. He is about 40 pounds and maybe 6 years old. He joined IDR from an animal shelter in Indiana.Since he has been in his foster home, I have to say he is the most loving dog I have ever fostered. His tail is non stop wagging. Just laying on one of the many dog beds relaxing and looking around, the tail is moving, eating his breakfast and dinner, the tail is wagging. Ted is currently living with both large and small dogs and gets along with everyone, even the cats, they don't even phase him. Ted does not need to be crated now that he has settled in his foster home. Ted is completely housebroken and goes outside to do his business and right back in. He loves to curl up and get much petting. There does not seem to be a mean bone in him what so ever. He is just the happiest boy! The sad part is he came into our rescue with heartworms and has started the heartworm treatment. He needs to be kept still and quite for another month, then he'll have to have his 2nd treatment. It will be another couple of months, then he'll be all ready to go to his new forever home. No one will be disappointed in this boy. Any questions, please contact his foster mom, Nancy at gottahavedobes@yahoo.com.
Keep Ted in your thoughts while he has to endure the heartworm treatment. And please keep you dogs on heartworm preventive, its the only way for a dog to avoid this hardship. **IDR is currently treating many dogs for heartworm and it is becoming very expensive. Christine

Christine Unlike Stephen King’s Plymouth Fury, IDR’s Christine couldn’t be any sweeter. Christine is only 11 months old and came from a shelter situation so when she arrived in her new foster home she was not experienced in crate training, housebreaking or any basic commands. In foster care she has learned some basic commands and seems to be housebroken (although she still may have an accident or two). She likes to lie in her crate when you are home, but gets barky in the crate when she is alone. Christine LOVES to go on walks and will actually do somersaults in the snow! She would benefit from a fenced yard because once outside she enjoys running at full speed as far as she can (which is only to the end of the leash right now). While in the house she is calm and only occasionally playful with her German Shepherd foster brother. She mostly keeps to herself and chews quietly on her bones or toys. She only sniffs at the four cats in the house and will sometimes try to play with them. They are not too happy about that and she gets a whack in the snout. She reacts by walking away. She loves to cuddle and be petted. She is just an all-around nice dog. Christine is fully vetted including spay, microchip and appropriate shots. If you are interested in adopting Christine, please fill out an application found on our website. Questions about Christine can be directed to Diane at diane5807@yahoo.com.

Mocha

Mocha Who doesn't love a good Mocha? They are rich, sweet and make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. That describes this little girl to a T. She loves to snuggle, just adores sitting next to you for petting and will even try to climb into your lap to get as close as she can. She gets along very well with the 6 other dogs she lives with both big and small. She feels that cats are squeaky toys meant to be chased so she should not live in a home with cats. Mocha is around 11 months old but still has all her puppy energy. She does like to chew, but is not bad, so she just needs lots of appropriate toys to satisfy her cravings. She is totally housetrained and has never had an accident in her foster mom's house even after being crated for a full work day or left out loose. This girl is as well behaved as dogs come and would be a wonderful addition to any household although I don't recommend that she be placed in a home with children under 10. She is up to date on all vaccines and is spayed. She has also attended basic obedience classes and has become the model student. She knows sit, down, stay, come and heel. If you would like to wake up to your very own Mocha each morning, please contact dobeagility77@sbcglobal.net for more information.
Max
last modified on October 24, 2009
Max Max is a gentle, 75-80 lb giant – beautiful, beautiful boy! By man’s standards, he should have checked out of here a couple of years ago. But thanks to his vet and it simply not being his time, he’s still with us. He had cancerous tumors and one vet recommended that he be put down and a young woman (another vet) said, “he has so much life left”. On that note, she administered some meds and Max has not had a problem since! His owner has to relocate to TX and just can’t take him along due to the nature of his job. There would be no one to take care Max. When it’s time to go out and take care of his business, he’ll definitely let you know, with a nudge and prancing around. When outside, before anything, he has a need to check the perimeter of the house from the back gate to the front, all directions! If there’s another animal (possum, squirrel or cat) in the yard, he’s going after it! He’s not too fond of other dogs. If they’re anywhere close, Max will start barking and the hair on his back will rise. Max enjoys his toys, especially his toy tire and he’ll play nice with you and his toys. He takes it with him everywhere that he goes. He has lots of character – when he wants to play, he’ll get in between your legs and just push until you rub his head. Toddlers make him a bit nervous – he’s not sure what to make of them. He does better with teens and adults. The funniest thing about Max is the way he sleeps – he put’s his left paw behind his head! Unbelievable! His snoring can be pretty loud sometimes – he looks and sounds human! Max really is a sweet, loving guy, who loves his rub downs and he gives plenty of licks of love. King

King Hello! My name is King! I came into the Humane Society of the Lakes in Minnesota as a stray. I am a big boy but don't be fooled around here they say I'm nothing but a big baby! When I find my new home I need my new owners to know that it takes me a bit to warm up to new places and new people. I get very defensive if I am behind a fence and I see someone I don?t know. If you are interested in adopting me we will have to spend a lot of time together at the Humane Society! I am curious about kids but I would do best in a home with older or no children. I will also need some behavior training, and I am very protective of what I think is mine. I would love to find a home out in the country as I love to bark at things and I will need plenty of room to stretch my legs! I love to run through water, play fetch with toys, and my favorite thing is my very own bone to chew on! I am looking for a new beginning and although I have some special needs I would love to meet you and find out if you are a good fit for me! Email Rachel at rachel@hsofthelakes.org
Reese

Reese Meet Mr. Reese! He initially was picked up as a stray and landed in a shelter where he was emaciated and in poor condition. He now looks fantastic and is ready for a new home. Whoever gets this goofy guy will have lots of entertainment. He absolutely loves the rope toy and likes to see how far he can throw it. He also loves to get a running start and slide on his butt if you have tile floor. Reese is about 3 or 4 years old. He is active, loving, and friendly with other dogs. He even brings the other dog's toys to him to play..won't even chew on them. He is great with kids too. He needs some obedience work, and his new foster mom is taking him to obedience classes in Indianapolis where he is fostered now. He is doing so well that he even sits everytime you open the fridge just in case a treat is coming. He is housebroken, and is doing very well with his lessons in house manners! He doesn't even need to be crated now! Oh and he is your typical Doberman who sits on steps with his rear higher than his feet. Or if you let him, he will put his rear on the couch and have his feet on the floor. Well you get the point, this guy is great so if you are looking for a friend follow the procedure below.
HE DOES REQUIRE A FENCE AS HE LOVES TO RUN AND PLAY ALOT. PLEASE FILL OUT APPLICATION PRIOR TO ANY PHONE CALLS PLEASE, OR SEND EMAIL, SEE OUR WEBSITE FOR ADOPTION INFORMATION WWW.NORTHCOASTDOBERMANRESCUE.ORG

Bella Bully Hi, my name is Bella. I don't think I had a name before today. Actually, I don't remember having anything before today. I was lucky enough to get picked up before I froze to death outside where somebody left me. I am only 7 weeks old and love to be held while I sleep. I was very scared, but now I have good food and a foster home that has given me toys and chews. I am thin, but healthy, and I would love to have a forever home that will spend time with me and make me the center of attention. I am working on housebreaking and am a very fast learner. If you want a great little girl, I am it!! Please fill out an application, and a volunteer will contact you. Bella will only be placed into a forever home that is located within 1.5 hours of Lake & McHenry Counties in Illinois...(sorry, NO exceptions).** If you are interested in adopting Bella please email Sylvia at simmonsus@aol.com
