Feature Dog

Feature Dog: Porsche
last modified on July 6, 2008
Porsche This abandoned 2003 model Porsche was towed by the Dobervan to Fox Lake Bodyshop with a broken rear axle. Luckily Dr. R. is certified to work on imports, and he was able to repair our out-of-commission Porsche right away. Apart from the wheel issue, her bleached exterior tells us that she had been kept outside. It seems someone did not love their Porsche enough to even keep her in the garage, imagine that! With a little time and some good detailing, we will have this classy girl looking as good as new and back on the road again. If reading about our Porsche has your motor racing, steer an email towards our head technician Pam at:orphandobe@ameritech.net
Update 5/27/08:Porsche is doing great. She had her splint taken off yesterday and is slowly learning to put weight on that leg. She is gaining weight nicely as well.
Update7/1/08: The vet said it will be a few more months for the pin to stay in to make sure the bone is healed. She has gained the weight she needed and looks great. Her coat is looking much better, too. Brushing out the dead coat has helped a lot and her coat is starting to look one color. No more sun bleached coat for this girl.
Rosemary Borzym wants Porsche to be ready to go roaring around - she sent DoberDuds and a donation. Vrooom Vrooom!

Special Needs

Ceasar
last modified on May 31, 2008
Ceasar Ceasar is an adorable 6 1/2 month old Dober pup who was turned into IDR by his owner that was moving and unable to dedicate the proper time and effort needed to care for such a young puppy. Unfortunately, after taking Ceasar in we noticed that he was walking a bit strange and had the vet check it out. He has hip dysplasia in both hips. It was decided he needed an FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) in both hips to relieve the pain. The first surgery was done on January 15th. He is doing pretty well but it is hard for him since his other hip is bad too. Poor guy! We have talked to the vet and he suggested water therapy since that will be easier on both him but still give him the muscle that he so needs. He is such a sweet, sweet boy and worth every penny.
Update 2/10/08: He has started his therapy and doing great. It does cost us about 50 dollars each session so donations are always welcomed. We have included a few photos of his therapy.
It will be a few months before the other one can be done so he will not be available for adoption for quite some time.
Update 4/15/08:Its been awhile since my foster mom updated everyone on my progress so I finally had to do it for her ..... For six weeks now I have been doing this real fun thing that I hear everyone call the "water treadmill" ... at first I didn't like it very much and I wore this silly life jacket for my safety but now that I realized how much fun it is I run to the therapy room and jump right into the tank when my teacher calls me and shows me the treat bag ... (she is the nice lady who gives me lots of food praises for working so hard in the water and boy do I have her wrapped around my little paw) ... then last week my foster mom took me back to see my doctor who also had a special friend for me to visit with .. he was a nice man who came all the way from Boston who knows lots and lots about kids like me with bad hips .... I heard him say that I am doing remarkably well for a boy who has had such a rough start .. and then he said that I still need to get stronger before we can fix my other hip which works fine for me because that means lots of more visits to the nice lady with the treats .... I was going to come to the adoptathon on Sunday but I am so comfy here with my foster family I decided to sit this one out .... so until then I'll keep hanging out, enjoying the spring weather, going to therapy and waiting to find my forever family. Oh and one other cool thing ....... I heard them say I am going to start swimming to increase my range of motion ... I think this is going to be really fun !! Thanks to everyone who donated to IDR to help with the cost of my therapy .. I promise I am going to grow into a big strong boy that you will all be so proud of !!!!
Update 5/28/08: Look at what a handsome boy Ceaser is growing up to be !!! He is turning one on 5/30 and for his birthday present we got the news that all that therapy work has paid off and he is finally strong enough to have his second FHO surgery !! YEAH !!!! Even though we know he would have a rough time enjoying his birthday we knew that aside from a forever home, a pain-free hip was going to be the best present we could give him ……. so Ceaser had his second surgery on 5/27/08 !!! This little guy is such a trooper and has been through so much in the past year … please keep him in your thoughts and send him lots of love and Doberman kisses for a happy first birthday !!

The Lakics family donated Cesar's Dober Duds. IDR thanks them for all their wonderful donations.

Frosty
last modified on June 18, 2008
Frosty Our Frosty might have been on the wrong TV show as I believe it was Rudolph that had the island of misfits. Our little misfit is an adorable albino guy who just happens to be blind. He seems to have light and dark perception but that is all. He is an extremely happy pup that is just about 11 months old. He loves everyone and everything he has met so far. He is good with other dogs and I am sure cats are fine too as he really could not chase them too far. If he is placed with another dog it needs to be a very tolerant one that can handle it if Frosty accidentally steps on them or constantly wants to play with them. Right now he is fostered with Neraku who acts as his guide dog. He wears a bell and Frosty follows him everywhere. He is a such a smart boy. He absolutely loves bones and toys and has them all over the place to play with them. He is very smart as he can find the new toy very quickly that I have placed in the pile of toys. He is like a little kid on Christmas with his new toy. He has been excellent about housebreaking here but I let him out often and crate him when I am not home. He finds his way to the door and scratches it to go out. He will actually run around my yard with no fear. He has an adorable personality but he also has some difficult traits as well. He is hypersensitive to noise and tends to bark at any unknown noise so he will not work for a person who has a condo or townhouse. He learns routine well though it will take a few weeks to adjust to a new home. He is going to need to find a family that has a home that is ranch style as stairs are not easy for a blind dog. Also having a fenced yard is much easier for him. He would also not be good for younger children as he does get overexcited about things and spins and jumps. If you want to find out more about our special guy email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Lexus
last modified on May 23, 2008
Lexus Lexus is 8 years old female, deaf and on thyroid medication. While you might say, “Ah, poor thing,” it’s a good thing Lexus cannot hear you because she doesn’t need your pity. She just wants your love! This gorgeous red Doberman lost her lifelong home due to the current state of our economy. Her owners lost their home and jobs, so they did the best they could for their beloved pet and gave her up to IDR+ so we could find her a forever home. Lexus has been at my home for less than a month and I have found her to be very active for an 8 year old dog. She is completely housebroken and she can easily make an 8 hour day, consequently she quickly earned her house privileges. Lexus adores her humans and she does not want to be apart from her people. This is not a separation anxiety situation, just a dog that adores being with her people. Since her people ties are SO strong she loves belly rubs, snuggling and is a pleasure to walk on a leash. The down side is she can be a little whiny when one of her people leaves, but she takes her corrections in stride and simply snuggles up to the person she is with. Also Lexus would do best in a home that does not have a lot of activity outside because she likes to look out the window and bark at all movements; people, dogs or bicycles. A fenced in yard would be a real bonus because she enjoys being outside to enjoy life’s bounty of smells. Since Lexus cannot hear her environment she uses all her other senses to compensate; constantly scanning for movement, smelling the air for aroma changes, looking at her humans for visual signals. Lexus knows hand signals for sit, stay, come and “give me paw”; she only recently showed me she knows this trick. She is a smart girl, so I have a feeling she knows more and it is my goal to figure them out. As for her thyroid medication, she takes 1 pill twice a day and the tiny pills are easily concealed in a sliver of hotdog. Her daily meds cost less then a piece of chewing gum. If you have any reservations about owning a deaf dog, not to worry, Lexus will be more than happy to teach you hand signals. Once you have decided you have a special place in your heart for this special Dobergirl please fill out an application to adopt, then feel free to email Sheila at mydoberkids@yahoo.comwith any questions you have about this delightful sweetie.
DoberDuds have been donated for this "luxury" dog - and she is ready to go!
Diablo
last modified on July 5, 2008
Diablo Do you like to ask yourself questions out loud? Diablo is the perfect companion for you! He likes to cock his head as if listening intently to your every word, and his brow is almost permanently furrowed as if he were seriously considering what you’re saying. No need for a human companion with Diablo around. He’ll never contradict you and will spend endless hours kissing your fingers. He is 2 years old and absolutely adorable even with his different looking head. According to his previous owner and vet, he seemed normal until about 8 months old. At that time, his forehead became permanently wrinkled and he developed some neurological peculiarities such as walking in circles and a tilted head. It is unclear as to why this change occurred. Diablo has seen our vet who believes there might have been accidental trauma that caused this, but he does not think it will worsen. He appears to be housebroken and is crate trained. Overall, he listens well and has a very loving personality. He is good with other dogs. However, the vet believes it would be better for him to be an only dog because his balance is sometimes off and he might fall over onto another dog, potentially getting into trouble. He does enjoy dogs though so it depends on the dog. Diablo needs to go to a home without a lot of steps as he is quite uncoordinated. If you are interested in adopting our special guy, email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Diablo will love to see his new DoberDuds given by Lola Gonzalez. He's a Dude with 'Duds!
Seniors

Titan
last modified on April 27, 2008
Titan Titan's story is one that we see too often, but still makes us very sad. A senior who needs to find a new home. This poor guy was given up because the owner didn't have enough time for him. When we made suggestions to her about different things she could do to keep him, her response was "Well he's 10!". So as you can see her commitment to him was not as strong as IDR's will be. We will find this guy a new home where he can be happy and loved until it is his time. Titan has a wonderful personality. He gets along with everyone he meets. He is a perfect gentleman with all the dogs (male and female) that he has met as well as the 3 cats that his foster mom has. He LOVES his crate and spends the majority of the day asleep in there. The door can be left open all day since he is such a good boy. He is housebroken and honestly doesn't do a thing wrong. If interested in giving this exceptional senior a home please email his foster mom Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Susan Lakics was kind enough to donate another collar and leash to one of our orphans.
Boomer
last modified on April 15, 2008
Boomer As a 7 year old Dobe, he might be called a senior. But don't tell Boomer that. Outside of some graying on his muzzle, and being a little overweight, he can run like a deer and loves playing with my Dober gal. Boomer is just the easiest Dobe I have ever fostered and, I must honestly admit, is better behaved than my own Dobies. Unfortunately, Boomer is needing another family because of the failing health of his Mom and she can no longer able to care for him. He is such a wonderful companion, I can only imagine that his former owners grieved, as much as he did, having to let him go. Boomer lived with both male and female dogs as well as cats. He is a true gentleman that loves his play but also knows to leave my elderly dog and cat alone. If you think you would like to add this wonderful guy to your family, promising to always cover him up before bedtime (as he is accustomed to) please contact his foster Mom at Rdobe1@aol.com AFTER completing an adoption application.

Duke
last modified on February 18, 2008
Duke Have you ever heard the phrase, He has a really nice personality, though"? You know then and there what that means. It means he is not going to be the most attractive guy. Well...our new senior guy Duke is that guy. He was picked up as a stray and thought to be about 7 years old. He has quite a few lumps and bumps but who doesn't? A bit of hip dysplasia, but that doesn't keep him from enjoying life. Duke has a wonderful personality. He is great with all the dogs he has met, both large and small. Didn't seem to mind the meowing cats in the crates next to him for the long 2 hour ride so my guess is cats are okay too. He seems to be completely housebroken, is mild mannered and great in the car. If you are looking for an easy boy, email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Craig Wagner has kindly donated DoberDuds for our Duke to wear in his dukedom
Mack
last modified on June 25, 2008
Mack Poor Mack! At 10 years old he lost his home when his owner had to foreclose on her home. Look at how sad he looks in the photo. How can you not give this guy a new home? He is a very sweet and gentle boy that gets along with all the dogs at the foster home. He hasn't been with us long so he may not have settled in completely yet but what a great guy so far. He also is supposed to be fine with cats. Mack does not act his age and loves to play. He is housebroken and does not need to be crated. So if you are looking for an easy guy, don't let his age deter you from having a wonderful companion. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Amy Newman says, "I hope your new 'Duds put a smile on your sad face!". We hope so, too - Thanks, Amy.
Newt
last modified on June 25, 2008
Newt This poor guy was turned into animal control, skinny and with Heartworm. He appears to be a bit of a mix but we just couldn’t leave him at the shelter. He is supposed to be about 8-10 years old. He is just a wonderful guy that gets along well with the other dogs. He is enjoying his nice comfy bed and his regular meals. He will be treated for Heartworm soon and then be available for adoption. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Baby Boo
last modified on July 1, 2008
Baby Boo You are not seeing things, Baby Boo is looking again for her forever home. She just doesn’t like to share her family with the rest of the animals. If you are looking for a wonderful, loving, and loyal companion for you or your family, then Baby Boo is for you. She may not be a youngster, but she is by no means an old lady! At age 7, she acts more like a 2 year old, but with all the perks! She is completely housebroken, knows right from wrong, and thrives on her human’s every word and praise. She evens smiles at you when she is happy or excited! She is very inquisitive, so she will not leave cats alone so she will need a home without cats. Though she has been able to coexist with some dogs, she really becomes jealous of them and would be best as an only dog. She has so much love and companionship to give to the right family or person. Her name fits her, as she is just one loving big baby. Please help Boo find the forever home she is searching for. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Ice
last modified on June 6, 2008
Ice As you can see, Ice is a handsome 2-3 year old boy and he's ready for a forever home to chill in. Ice has had some obedience training and is looking for a new family to teach him even more "tricks." He walks well on a leash and knows sit and down (he knows them especially well when there is food involved!!). Ice is still very playful and does play rough, so he would do well with another large female dog, but really needs a home without small dogs or kids. Ice can also be very barky when there are distractions outside the home, so apartments or homes on busy streets might not be the best fit for him. Ice is very athletic and loves to run, play fetch, and has even done some agility work. He'd love a family that can keep his mind and body as busy as can be. Ice would also like to mention that he spins when excited (which is a lot of the time!) and can spin both directions. For more information email his foster mom, Erin at majesticbourbon@gmail.com.
Dober Duds for Ice were donated by Daphne Mitchell.
Gabe
last modified on March 8, 2008
Gabe Gabe is new to IDR and his current foster home. He came from a shelter and did not have a great home before and has a mark on his head where he was hit with a pipe by the owner. He was supposed to have lived with kids, cats and dogs, but I would not recommend that he go with kids or cats. He loves to play with other dogs but is VERY rough when he plays so he would not do well with small dogs. He is 2 years old but still has all his puppy energy. Gabe is very active and needs a home that will provide him with lots of exercise and structure. Obedience classes are a must for him as he has a lot of learning to do. He can sit and is learning to lie down. If you think you can provide the time, committment and training that Gabe needs, please contact Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Thanks again to Susan Lakics for dressing up Gabe.
Simon
last modified on April 17, 2008
Simon What can I say about Simon that wouldn't be evident if you saw this goofy boy running around? First of all, I'm not sure he knows he's a dog. Being picked up as a stray, nothing is known about his background. But it seems, based on how he absolutely mimics my female Dobe, he had little exposure to other dogs and certainly didn't have any type of training as he had zero manners. He has since learned how much he likes attention and being petted on. As a result, he has a pretty solid sit and I take advantage of that every time his goofiness gets the best of him. Being about a year old, he still has a lot to learn but is eager to do so when he gets positive reinforcement; either a cookie/biscuit or being petted. The best scenario for Simon would be a home with a fenced yard and another dog for him to play with. He also does well with my elderly cat, but could be too pesky for some felines. Simon is a very loving dog and doesn't have a mean bone in his body, but his exuberance and goofiness could prove to be too overwhelming for kids any younger than teenagers. Since he needs some one-on-one training, an obedience deposit will be required for Simon to insure he will receive the training he needs to mature into a wonderful companion. For additional information about Simon, please contact his foster mom at Rdobe1@aol.com. AFTER completing an adoption application.

Skye
last modified on May 31, 2008
Skye Skye's bio is particularly difficult to write -- not because he has problems to gloss over, but because he has come so far and made such a huge transformation since he came into rescue that it is difficult to capture the essence of that change with mere words. The facts about Skye are that he is a beautiful deep charcoal blue, is about 18 months to two years old, and came to rescue through a shelter where he was turned in by a person who found him too much to handle after getting him from an owner that tied him outside to a doghouse for the most of his short life. The story of Skye's transformation opens with a very skinny, very frightened dog that had no manners, no knowledge of how to be a good companion and absolutely no self-confidence whatsoever. As a result of his lack of self-confidence and fear, he would submissively urinate at the slightest interaction. Six months later, the next act in the story shows Skye full of confidence, having learned the routine and rules of the house, that people are kind, that he can count on having adequate food and water, and that toys are lots of fun to play with. He is housebroken with supervision, is crate trained, has learned to hang out and relax in the kitchen, and has made friends with many different dogs. However, this description truly does not capture the full essence of the change in Skye during the past six months. Somewhere along the line, he became a happy-go-lucky dog, full of play and a zest for life. I'm not quite sure when it happened, but one day I just noticed that this was not the same dog I started out with! Skye is ready for his forever home, which will ideally have a fenced yard, no children under 10 or cats, another playful large dog (preferrably female), and patient, understanding owners that can train Skye through positive methods in the basics of being a canine good citizen. He is now mentally ready for basic obedience training and will enjoy the closeness and bond that training provides. For more information on Skye, please contact Laura at knollbg@msn.com, and to read of Skye's early days in rescue, see the link http://www.gamefanatic.org//IDR/Skye
Nancy Chandler has graciously donated Skye's collar and leash.
Louie
last modified on June 14, 2008
Louie Sweet Louie unfortunately was used as a stud dog.(Please read our information regarding the Albino Doberman.) Thankfully, he has now made his way to IDR and will no longer be producing any puppies and he will find himself a great home. He is 4 years old. Louie is a bit fearful of things but getting much better. We were told he did not have the best beginning in life but we will definitely change that for him. He is now in a foster home and he is wonderful guy. No vices at all, except that he is VERY fearful of men. We are working on his fear issues, but it is very evident that he was very badly abused by a man in his previous life. Other than that he is a typical velcro dog and follows his foster Mom and brother everywhere. He is great with other dogs but cannot do cats. He was not aggressive with the cat but just WAY to interested in her. He plays well with other dogs of all ages and sizes and is very respectful of their space. Louie has great leash manners and doesn't even need a pinch to be walked. He is crated when no one is home because he tends to get on the counter when no one is there with him. He never bothers anything while someone is in the house with him though. He is an incredibly sweet boy that bonds very quickly so we are hoping to find him a forever home soon so he can bond with someone who will love him forever. Ledger
last modified on July 2, 2008
Ledger Ledger is a sweet and handsome fawn boy that was picked up as a stray. He is thought to be about 1 1/2 years old. He is currently in a foster home and doing great. He's smart and picks up on things very quickly. He knows how to “sit” “down” and “wait” for food and at the door. We are still working on “come”, but it’s getting better all the time. He will need an owner that is consistent with training and an obedience class will be required. Ledger is very sweet and once he learns your routine he settles right in as part of the family. He gets along well with the foster dogs, but tends to play a little rough. If placed with other dogs they probably should be younger and like to play also. He would do best with a single person or couple without kids that want a dog to be their best friend - take him places and spend a great deal of time with him. He rides great in the car and loves to travel. He needs to be kept active and involved - otherwise he will find less desirable ways to entertain himself. As long as he gets plenty of activity he will be happy to nap on his bed beside you while you relax for the evening. A 5’ (at least) fence would be recommended because he shows a great deal of interest in anything going on outside the fence. He does bark some but it isn’t aggressive, just excited. He hasn’t been tested with cats, but seems to have a high prey drive - so they would not be recommended. He has met little dogs and kids and does fine with both, but he would be too active for little children and might knock them down. Ledger will walk well with the prong collar, but still tends to pull without it. He has been trained to walk on a treadmill and enjoys the focus that this requires. He's housebroken and can handle being crated for a full workday, but tends to bark and whine when first left alone. Although he settles down pretty quickly he may not be a good candidate for an apartment or condo. He is very food oriented, so easy to work with but also a counter surfer if given the opportunity. He loves to chew so he has some durable nylabones, antlers, kong, etc. He adores being brushed and does well with getting his nails done. He’s really a lover and enjoys belly rubs and snuggling. Sturgis
last modified on July 2, 2008
Sturgis Minus the motorcycle, Sturgis has ridden into the IDR Plus world once again, no fault of his own though. Sturgis’ family has lost their home and poor Sturgis could not go along for the ride. Sturgis is now three years old. He has actually completed two obedience classes and earned his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification. His previous adoptive mom had plans on rally obedience with him as well before his world was turned upside down. If you are ready for a fun loving, playful, energetic dog, then Sturgis is your boy. He strives very hard to please his foster mom and is oh so smart. He loves to chase after balls or just about anything you can throw for him, be careful though, he also likes to tear them apart if no one is watching. Sturgis needs activity and exercise in his daily routine, he walks nicely on the leash. He is definitely not a couch potato fellow. He can be on the “vocal side”, everything is exciting to him. Sturgis does need to be crated when left alone, he will chew on cloth items. Sturgis has lived successfully with older children and a female dobe. He can not be placed in a home with cats. It is recommended that Sturgis has a fenced in yard to romp and play in. Sturgis has adjusted to his foster home and all the changes he has faced but he would feel much better with a loving, motivated new family to call his very own. Please contact Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net.
Sturgis really could use a break!
Sturgis says, "Thanks Susan!", to Susan Lakics for a new set of DoberDuds
Bach
last modified on June 26, 2008
Bach Bach LOVES to play!! He is happiest when he is running around the backyard with his foster brothers and sisters. He is a very happy puppy that loves everyone he meets. Bach is 10 months old. Just like any puppy he needs rules and training. He will need to be crated when you are not home. He was adopted as a puppy from animal control and the owners had his ears cropped. now that we have him in our program we think he is a mix of some sort. Quite possibly a Rottweiler but that doesn't make him any less adorable! He has a great temperament. Bach is a little bit too exhuberant with cats so NO cats for this boy.

Tobi
last modified on April 7, 2008
Tobi This is Tobi, a sweet boy who started doing poorly in a shelter situation after about 6 weeks. This happens a lot with dobes, who don't seem to do well at animal shelters. Fortunately he's now at IDR and searching for the perfect home. Tobi is a very handsome 80 pound black and dark rust boy with a docked tail and natural ears. He is two years old and hasn't had much obedience training, but he is a very fast learner and wants to be taught how to do things the right way. His previous owner kept him outside during the summer and inside in the winter- not the best way to teach a dog how to properly behave around others when most of the time there was no one else around. As a result Tobi craves attention and wants nothing more than someone to play with and call "his person". Tobi bonds easily and knows how to sit when asked. He has done well with other dogs but has the propensity to play a bit rough when he gets excited. So far this has only been an annoyance with some older dogs, as Tobi doesn't seem to understand their signals that "enough is enough". Tobi crates well and will have to be crated while he's not being watched until he learns how to properly behave in the house. He can be very mellow but he is just now learning to distinguish his toys from everything else that shouldn't be chewed. He loves to ride in the car and can walk as long as you can at the park or in your neighborhood. Tobi will benefit from daily vigorous exercise (can you teach him to jog with you?), obedience classes that include other dogs, consistent handling and a lot of love and attention. Due to his size and exuberance he is not recommended to homes with children under 10; however, it's fully expected that he will do well with smaller children after he learns that he doesn't have to beg for every ounce of love and attention that he craves. He has not yet been tested with cats. Tobi is not recommeded as a companion for older dogs. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Tobi is delighted to start out his search for a new home with DoberDuds donated by Susan Lakics who dresses so many of our dogs for success
Stabler
last modified on July 1, 2008
Stabler Stabler was picked up as a stray and nobody claimed him. He is an adorable albino guy that is just as sweet and goofy as they come. He is about 2 years old. He loves to carry about his stuffies and loves to play with the other dogs. He can be a bit mouthy with them but does listen well if they correct him. He is okay with little dogs and cats too but does like to chase so if it is a zoomy little dog or a cat that runs, he will chase.
So with training he could live with them. He is a bit barky with new noises, otherwise he is quiet enough for condo. He is destructive when left unattended, so he has to be crated when home alone. Best that his crate is placed away from front door or noisy neighbors where sounds will wake him and excite him as he wants out and play. He is high energy, so lots running and activities will help tire him and quiet him down during the day. He also cannot be left alone for 8-10 hours work day, as that would lead to whining and barking. He is fine in the crate for 4-6 hours. He is housebroken. Stabler has been friendly with everyone he has met so far. He loves attention and loves to lay at or on your feet. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Lori Martin has donated DoberDuds for Stabler so he can be all dressed up
Neraku
last modified on April 21, 2008
Neraku Neraku had to be surrendered to a humane society because his owner was going to Iraq. He is 9 months old and quite a sweet boy. He came to us very skinny and with bad kennel cough. He is finally healthy and ready for a new home. He lived with a small dog and cats before being turned in and the owner said he only wanted to play with them. We know this is true as he is very playful with all dogs, a bit too playful for some. He is crate trained and housebroken and does need to be crated when you are not home. He loves everyone he meets. Sometimes a bit shy for a minute or two but once you pet him he is all over you for attention. He is just a bit puppy and will need obedience classes as most young Dobes do. As you can see he likes to be up on my counter so he can see what is going on in the living room. He also loves small spaces and constantly goes into the small dog crate where he is even though he has access to a Doberman sized crate. He loves toys and loves to play. Overall he is an easy foster puppy. For more information email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Nicole DeCillo wanted Neraku to be "lookin' good" in DoberDuds when he goes to his forever home. Thanks.

Remy This adorable little guy, Remy, was surrendered to animal control and they listed "no time" as the reason for give up, but we have no background on him. He is about a year old. Yes, we know he is a bit of mix, but when the animal control officer asked us to take him also, we couldn't say no, as he is very sweet. He is a great boy that is very wiggly & friendly w/all the people he's met (including children). He has been fine with all the dogs he has met as well, both large and small. He is still in puppy mode, always looking for something to do. He does not really like his crate but over time I'm sure will be fine. Remy is not a chewer so the fact that he doesn't crate well has not been an issue. He is not a barker and does well on a leash. He is living with a cat and didn't seem to even notice the cat. For more information contact Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Remy has new DoberDuds from Irene and Jerry Forst. He'll be looking really classy like the fine cognac
Watson
last modified on July 3, 2008
Watson Watson was picked up as a stray and thought to be about 4 years old. He's very friendly and gets along great with other dogs. He crates very well and loves to cover himself with blankets! He will snuggle down and you won't be able to see him. He loves to cuddle on the couch with you or the other dogs in the house. Watson is housebroken and will stand at the door when he needs to go out. Watson loves to play outside and explore the yard with his foster siblings. Watson was placed and returned due to growling. However, I still cannot get him to growl in my house. So he would do best in a home with an assertive(not heavy handed)owner that will take him to obedience classes to help build his confidence. Because of his history I will not place him in a home with small children. For more information please contact his foster mom Sandy at sandra_shephard@adp.com
Caroline Anderson says, "Watson is adorable!". She has kindly donated his Doberduds. Thanks!
Scorpio
last modified on June 30, 2008
Scorpio If you're looking for a BIG dobe, look no further. At 1 1/2 years old and 100 pounds, Scorpio was surrendered by his family because they didn't have time for him and he was just too big. He's been in his foster home for a week now and is doing just great. With a prong collar he walks just fine--no pulling at all. He needs a little work on running as he is a big goof and thinks the leash is a toy. He is housebroken and crate trained and easily handles a regular work day. Because he is so large, younger children are just not an option as sometimes he's a bit uncoordinated and doesn't realize how big he is. He is extremely intelligent and learns commands very quickly. He is very well behaved--barks rarely (so far only when someone has come into the yard) and listens quite well. Car rides are a breeze as he jumps in easily and lays down nicely. He ignores most things on a walk including dogs if you keep him moving however, the few introductions we've had with dogs indicates that he still needs work in that area. I suspect he is just trying to play rough but haven't had enough experience yet to definitely say that. He usually has his toys with him and often carries two or three at the same time (hey, if your mouth were that big, you would too!). As big as he is though, the biggest part of him is his heart as he just loves to be with his people and get his big floppy ears scratched. If you have an approved application on file and a fenced yard and are interested in meeting Scorpio, email Rob at robsturrus@hotmail.com.
Jacqueline Nosko isn't waiting for Scorpio's "sign" in October. She's donated his DoberDuds now so he'll be ready to go to his new home

Hart
last modified on July 4, 2008
Hart Hart is a beautiful 2 year old but is quite a handful. He will need an owner who will go to obedience classes and a deposit will be required. Hart is extremely jumpy and energetic. He will make a great companion but does need work. He will not be adopted to a home with small children and you must have a fenced yard. He has not been tested with other dogs yet.
Susan Lakics has outfitted another dog with DoberDuds. We can rely on Susan to keep them looking good!
Tango
last modified on July 7, 2008
Tango Tango is very well behaved approximate 1 1/2 year old male that was found as a stray. He is now in a new foster home and doing great. He is a very laid back guy, he loves to lay in the backyard and soak up the sun. Tango rode well while crated in the car not one peep while stuck in traffic. Tango is crate trained, and completely house broken. He does not appear to be a chewer and doesn't seem to get attached to toys. He does very well with other dogs males and females, he has not been cat tested. He loves to be petted, get belly rubs and give kisses. He is not a big barker and only barks when first crated and when the other dogs bark. Tango is ok with grooming although the bath is not his favorite but does ok. He respects baby gates, he likes to get on the couch and cuddle with you but understands that he is not allowed and is easily corrected. He knows how to sit, and would do great in obedience training. The training will also help him on leash, he does ok but tends to pull at times. Overall he is a great laid back dog and will make a great additioin to the family. He is a really good boy and deserves a forever home. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Melanie Burda-Adams says, "Tango can't be a good dance partner without lookin' good!" So, she donated his Doberduds.
Lotus
last modified on July 1, 2008
Lotus Lotus was picked up as a stray and spent the last few months in a very rural shelter until a Doberman lover spotted him and called us for help. We only just got him in so can’t add too much to his bio yet. He is thought to be about 1 ½ years old and is full of energy. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
He doesn't look like a Lotus Blossom, but maybe he will "blossom" with DoberDuds donated by Susan Lakics
Milton
last modified on July 4, 2008
Milton Milton recently arrived to our program as a stray, which boggles my mind as to how someone could miss this great boy and not search the world for him. He is a very mellow and laid back dober boy who just loves to be petted, have his ears scratched and to tell him how handsome and loving he is. Milton is being kept behind a baby gate in a office setting without any problems, he does not appear to have to be crated at this time. He is housebroken and rides very nice in a car. He is as quite as a mouse. Milton has been mingling with my other dobes through the baby gate and does not mind them at all, even the cats, no barking or any signs of a prey drive. Outside in my yard he'll do his business than you'll find him laying on my deck soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the warm weather. I think he would be okay with children due to his laid back personality and calm demeanor. Milton will be having his routine medical down soon and at that time I will get an estimate on his age, I think he has to be around 4 yrs old. Milton most likely can fit into any family household as the perfect pet and his future forever home will be so lucky to have him. Thanks so much for reading about this wonderful and loving dober boy. Pre-approved adopters can contact his foster mom, Nancy at gottahavedobes@yahoo.com
Gerri Albright has donated DoberDuds for this "laid back" boy. Milton says, "Thanks, Gerri"

Jenny
last modified on May 26, 2008
Jenny Jenny is a very sweet girl who has been with us many months and is still waiting for a home. She came from Kentucky where she was dropped off at animal control with three other Dobermans. She is thought to be about 5 years old and is a bit shy and on the quiet side. She loves to go for walks, lay on her dog bed with a toy and hang out with her people. She is crate trained and housebroken and gets along great with the two male dogs she lives with, but cannot live with cats. She has a few quirks like walking in circles sometimes. Jenny will be a wonderful companion for someone looking for a sweet, quiet and quirky girl. Email Jennifer at n2dobes@comcast.net
Jenny looks wonderful in her collar and leash donated by Susan Lakics. She knows she will have to wait awhile to show it off in her new home, but she wants to thank Susan.
Judy Garland
last modified on June 26, 2008
Judy Garland Judy was picked up as a stray along with another female Doberman. She was found to be Heartworm positive but has since been treated and is ready for a new home. We think Judy lived outside as housebreaking has been a bit of a challenge but she is now understanding to go outside. Judy absolutely thrives on human attention. In fact it was a bit of a challenge to even get a photo of her as she wants to stick to you like glue anywhere you go. She would love obedience classes as she loves to please. She was fine with the dog she came in with but it was obvious she was the leader. We believe she would be happiest as an only dog or with one other male. She cannot live with cats. Email Sandy at sandra_shephard@adp.com
Ralph Campion has donated Doberduds for our two Hollywood stars. Judy says, "Thank You."
Judy
last modified on May 31, 2008
Judy Judy is a beautiful dobergirl who needs a new home. She has been a faithful and wonderful companion to her owner; however, she recently started to fight with her two canine housemates. Since they are both older dogs it seems to be in the best interest of all involved to find Judy a new home. She is almost 3 years old. Because of the recent fights she must be placed as an only dog. She is sweet tempered and loves to cuddle!! She is comfortable in her crate once she learns the routine. She is active and loves to run and play. Her favorite things to do are going for walks and playing with her Kong ball. She is an intelligent girl and is very good at obedience training. She needs someone who will continue to work with her so she can reach her full potential. She can be vocal at times so she is not a good condo or apartment dog. Since she is unfamiliar with children she will only be place with families with children over 12 years old. A passive home would work best for her and a fenced yard is a must. For more information about Judy, please contact Tina at cmwltdinc@aol.com
Even before a bio could be written Amy Newman wanted Judy to have DoberDuds and made the donation on PayPal. Thanks!
Lillian
last modified on May 26, 2008
Lillian Lillian is a beautiful petite Red/Rust Dobie with a lot of energy and athletic ability. She is almost 3 years old and unfortunately no one has ever taught her manners. She is a must for obedience school and it will be a lot of fun for both of you! After obedience school she has the potential to be a star in agility classes. She is a great jumper and gives you a lot of eye contact when doing commands. She wants to please; when she is done doing something really good, she wants to give you a kiss. She is only 51 pounds but can do a dober lean like a 100 pound dobie. When it is “settle down” time, she just wants to sit by your side and kiss you as you pet her. Tennis balls seem to be her favorite toy. She gets along with my girls and boy but slow introductions are always a must if you already have a dog. If you open your home to this beautiful girl she will give you tons of leaning love and passionate play times! For more information email leninger1604@comcast.net.
Maybe a high-profile set of glitzy DoberDuds will bring Lillian out of her shyness. To help, Jennifer Brown has donated the 'Duds
Beautiful Rose
last modified on June 27, 2008
Beautiful Rose Beautiful Rose came in with two other Dobes (both adopted) as the breeder turned them into the shelter. Rose is just a sweetie and is about 2 years old. She was great with both the dogs she was turned in with, and has been friendly with all the humans and dogs in her foster home. She is very playful and loves attention. She will jump over the baby gates so she can be closer to the action. She is housebroken; crate trained and walks nicely on leash. Obedience classes will help Rose understand what is expected of her so an obedience deposit will be required. If you are interested in Rose, please email Teresa at tntndobes2@aol.com
April Klein, all the way from Eugene, Oregon, has donated DoberDuds for Beautiful Rose. Wow! Thanks, April
Cleo
last modified on June 28, 2008
Cleo Miss "Cleopatra" (Cleo) was given up by her family as they feel they cannot provide enough attention and time for her. She was very very skinny when she was dropped off and she is quite scared of things. We don’t know her past but hope to improve her future. She would do best in a quieter home but also a home that will raise her confidence level. She is okay with other dogs if properly and slowly introduced otherwise she is a bit defensive. She is supposed to be good with children too but she needs to be with older kids in my opinion as she seems as if loud and sudden movements would scare her. She is housebroken and does not appear to be a chewer. She is so sweet, gentle and loving. Cleo just turned 6 years old. For more information email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
The folks at birdfreak.com send this message, "From all of us at birdfreak.com, good luck Cleo!" They also donated her DoberDuds
Lexie
last modified on July 3, 2008
Lexie Lexie was surrendered to a shelter as the family just had a baby and had to move as well. She is very petite and a happy, sweet little girl. Lexie loves everyone she has met at her foster home and just thrives on human contact. She would love obedience as she loves to please. Though coexisting with another dog she can be quite a dominant little thing and would be best as an only dog. She is 3 years old and your typical blue with a sparse coat. She is very smart and easy to train. She is housetrained, crate trained and knows her basic commands. She does seem to get a bit amped up on the leash so may need to work on her skills in that area. Overall Lexie has been a very easy foster girl. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Raymond Rosenow has kindly donated Lexie's DoberDuds. Lexie says, "Thanks!"
Georgia
last modified on June 19, 2008
Georgia Georgia was surrendered to animal control because the owner bought the dog for her adult son who couldn't seem to take care of her. She is 1 1/2 years and a sweet girl. She is quite confused right now, trying to figure out what happened to her. She lived with 3 small dogs and one cat and did fine. We noticed since arriving she is acting very fiesty with other dogs so we assume that is part of her confusion. The woman also ran a daycare and said she was great with all the children. She only just arrived so we will add more information once we get to know her better. Email Kat at kattwoman5@yahoo.com
Katy
last modified on July 3, 2008
Katy Katy is a very, very sweet girl. She was confiscated in Chicago along with her very fat Rottweiler sister. Obviously, the rottie got all the food because this poor girl is VERY skinny! Good thing we got her when we did because she had the beginnings of Pyometra. She has now been spayed and is very happy and wiggly. Katie is submissive so she will need obedience to help build her confidence. She pulls on the leash but is getting better. So far she has gotten along with all her foster brothers and sisters. She might be okay with cats but I will be testing her further. Katy rides well in the car and loves her crate. She is a big fan of chewing so she needs to have lots and lots of bones. For more information please contact Sandy at Sandra_shephard@adp.com
Bonnie Wolfe has donated DoberDuds for Katy. She may have to grow into them, but IDR+ will make sure she does!
Auburn
last modified on July 7, 2008
Auburn Auburn is a very cute, all natural red-head. She just arrived in her new foster home so we are looking forward to getting to know her better. She was an owner turn in who traveled from Michigan to IDR+ due to her family moving. She is 4 years old. Her previous family noted she is good with children. Thus far, she is generally a laid back gal who is more than fine with going into her kennel for bedtime. She seems amenable to correction (on occasion has barked and tried to exit her expen) and likes having a human buddy to snuggle with and rub her belly. She rode beautifully in the car and didn't mind that a big red male Dobe was in the car too so it is suspected she is fine with other dogs. It is uncertain if she will not pester cats at this point - as she has barked at them a little bit and does have a good eye for rodents (squirrels and rabbits especially). We plan to get a better feel for her with cats as she settles in a bit more. If you would like to learn more about Auburn, please email Tamara at tsfmcky@yahoo.com
Melanie Adams sent DoberDuds through PayPal for Auburn. But the real story is that Lauren, age 10, is saving cans to raise money for her summer "service project" - which is raising money for IDR+. Auburn says, "Thanks, Melanie and Lauren"
Brianna
last modified on June 25, 2008
Brianna Hi! My name is Brianna. I am a beautiful albino Dobe. I came into the rescue as a stray. I can’t understand why someone would not love me enough to come looking for me. I am a wonderful girl. I am extremely sweet and well mannered. I just love my human companions. My goal is to please you. I listen very well and am respectful to you. A snap of the fingers and a “no” is all I need to know that I am not behaving as you would like. I am so eager to gain your love. When I wake up in the morning, I love to sing and talk to you. I also do this when you have been away and come home to me. I’ve just missed you so much. Like many Dobermans, I like to dance and spin in circles to show you how excited I am to see you. I already know sit, stay, and down. I am learning to walk nicely on a leash without pulling. Again, a quick command is all it takes. I am a quick study as some would say. It only took me one night to know where my bed was, and that became my safe place. I love to snuggle, and if given the opportunity, I love to cuddle on the couch with you. I will even let you lay your head on me. I ride nicely in a vehicle. In fact, you might not even know I’m there. I am polite around food. I will sit and wait for you to tell me it is ok to eat. I am learning to take treats nicely. They are so delicious! I get along with most dogs and that is where the problem came in. As you may remember me posted before. In my new home the Jack Russell and I just couldn't get along. If I am challenged, I will defend myself. I have been around all sizes of dogs, and seem to do well. If they like me, I like them. Some obedience classes will help to socialize me some more. A bad habit I have is chewing on my people’s shoes. I just can’t help it, they smell like you! Plus, I am still in my puppy years, so this is completely normal. I really love toys, and that is a great distraction from shoes. I am learning to play fetch, and am getting really good at bringing the ball/toy back to you. I love exercise. If you are looking for a sweet, loving girl to add to your home, I am looking for you. I know I will be a forever friend to the right person. Is that you!!!!!???? They tell me I am about 1 1/2 years old. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net
Frances Proc read the whole story and knew that Brianna needed Doberduds and some love. Frances has donated 'Duds to Brianna and two other dogs today. Yeah, Frances!

Dixie
last modified on July 6, 2008
Dixie Dixie was surrendered to the shelter because they took her in from a friend to watch and the people did not want her back. She did well with the male dog in the home but had mood swings with the other female Dobe in the home. She will be placed only with males due to that. They tested her with the shelter cats and she was fine with both of them. She is five years old and just an adorable girl. She has not been in foster home yet so we cannot tell you too much more. In the kennel she is very clean and loves everyone. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Kona
last modified on July 6, 2008
Kona If you're looking for a lover, this is your guy. Kona is a 6-8 month old male who loves people, loves to cuddle & give kisses. That is, when he's not romping around at top speed checking things out. Kona has a great temperament, very friendly, very social, loves life. He is brand new & we are still getting to know him, but so far, he's wonderful. Kona is still a puppy & whoever adopts him should be prepared for a puppy, which must include a plan for exercising & playing with an energetic, young working dog, crating him when you cannot watch him & taking him to at least a basic obedience class. Email Amy at Amyndobes@sbcglobal.net
Barbara Perry has donated DoberDuds for Kona. She sends this message - "Wishing Kona a speedy journey to his forever home ... he's just adorable"

Melody

Melody WOW! I have come such a long way. I still need to walk on a front clip harness when taking a stroll with my family (especially with ducks around!), but I no longer bark at rocks, flag poles, or people when they are in sight. I still want to bark at other dogs walking along outside by me, but when my foster mom says, “Watch me”, I look up at her face, sit, and wait for her next command. Sometimes I even get a treat for doing this quickly!! Which reminds me, I really need to lose about 7 pounds. My foster dad wasn’t watching me close enough during the week when it was time to eat and I frequently ate everyone’s food!!!! I also am good with cats now, even when they run from me. The timid house cat brushes up against my legs once in a while now and the outgoing house cat (he was born in a house full of dogs) thinks I am a dog to play tag with, hee hee hee. The ideal family for me would be one that has a fenced in yard, children over five years, another dog to play with (or a dog friendly cat), and time to play a few hours a day. If you are interested in me, please contact my foster mom: Ann for more information at agdobie1@aol.com. I have been waiting a long time for a new home.
Melody's collar and leash were donated by Rebecca, in memory of Roz.
Jack
last modified on April 28, 2008
Jack Jack is an adorable guy who was found as a stray in Chicago. He must have a lucky streak in him as he was scheduled to be put down but the shelter staff just couldn’t bear to do so because he is so sweet. He is a Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix and roughly eight or nine years old. He most definitely does not act like a senior, but that's probably because the life expectancy of his breeds is roughly fourteen to sixteen years old. He's really only middle aged!
Jack is one spry guy and very interested in remaining active. He loves to follow us around the house and is thrilled when he goes outside. While he is active, he doesn’t have that frenetic energy terriers typically display. His personality is fun but a bit more mature. Currently Jack is living with male and female dogs of all sizes and ages and he is doing fine. He is also fine with cats. Occasionally he will play with one of our dogs, but he is more interested in being with people. He recently discovered that beds have blankets and snuggling under them is wonderfully warm and cozy! If you prefer Jack not be a bed buddy, that’s fine too as he loves his bolster bed. Jack is a great companion in the evenings and will curl in your lap on the couch to watch television asking only for an ear rub every now and then. He is an easy-going, affectionate boy who gets along with everyone. However, Jack’s hearing has decreased but he isn’t entirely deaf. You can easily get his attention by clapping. Jack hasn’t had any obedience so we are working on that in his foster home. Due to his lack of obedience and hearing deficiency, a home with an outside dog pen or fenced yard would be perfect so he could have relief time off leash. However, other situations are a possibility. He is showing no signs of arthritis and easily goes up and down stairs. When Jack first arrived with us he did jump on people quite a bit, but since he is eager to please he has gotten much better and rarely jumps on humans anymore. Jack is housebroken and once he learns where your doors are, he will go to one and cry to be let outside. He rides well in a car and easily is crated. Jack was cooperative for his bath and nail trim. Jack is up to date on all his vaccinations, is neutered and recently had a dental. Jack’s adoption fee is $100 and his bolster bed will go with him to his forever home. If you are interested in this little guy, please contact Lara at Saintchauncy@comcast.net
Jack says "Thanks" to Carlisle Charlton from Iowa who has donated his DoberDuds
Fred
last modified on May 23, 2008
Fred Fred has been in a new foster home for a couple of weeks and is doing very well. He gets along well with dogs of all sizes and genders and is fine with the cats as well. Fred has a spinal issue that causes him to walk with a staggering gait and drag his back feet a little bit. This does not slow him down at all, but he needs a home where he does not have to do stairs. He is house broken, as long as he gets regular outside breaks, and is very content in his crate. He loves to spend time on the couch with his favorite people and will make someone a great companion. If you can open your heart up to this slightly "special needs" older gentleman please email Jane at wevmit@sbcglobal.net.

Nikki
last modified on April 30, 2008
Nikki Nikki thought he had found his forever home. He loved his 95 year old Mom dearly and it was obvious she loved him too. Although she lived alone, neither she or her family ever worried about her safety as Nikki was excellent at making sure that anyone even walking by her home would know she wasn't alone. But she did worry about what would happen to Nikki if she passed away before he did. I would reassure her that I would make sure that Nikki was taken care of. And, although his Mom hasn't passed away, she is unable to care for herself requiring that her family put her in a nursing facility. It's a good thing that her mental facilities have failed as she would be so worried about her little guy. She would be so happy to know that, although Nikki isn't a Doberman, IDR+ made room for this very special boy. Nikki is a 10 year old Terrier/Schnauzer that is still very full of life but, because of his low key lifestyle, would probably do best in a more calm home. He lived as the only pet but has periodically lived with a female cocker while Mom was in the hospital. We aren't sure of Nikki's feelings about cats or children but will update this posting as we get to know him better. If you are interested in learning more about Nikki, contact his foster Mom at Rdobe1@aol.com AFTER completing an adoption application found on our website.
This boy took such good care of his elderly Mom. Now we'll make sure that he gets taken care of - and Patricia Makutenas has started the process by donating his DoberDuds. Thanks!

Beau

Beau Alright, so he is not a Doberman but he is black and tan. Beau is a Black and Tan Coonhound that was picked up as a stray with a large wound in his side. It has healed nicely and now we just have to see if some of the hair will grow back. He is such a sad, scared guy that we have to assume he did not have the best past. We hope to make his future better. Beau will need to go with someone who will boost his confidence and it would be safest for him to have a solid fenced yard. He is great with dogs. He only just arrived so we will add to his bio as we get to know him better. Email Sandy at sandra_shephard@adp.com

Nancy
last modified on July 4, 2008
Nancy This cute little 10 pound girl needs a one of a kind individual to bring her back to life. She is thought to be about 3 years old. Nancy is a bundle of nerves. She came from hoarder's home that had 54 Italian Greyhounds. Due to this she had no individual attention and was only used for breeding. When we got her she had just had a litter. She has had no socialization and is scared of loud noises, dogs, and sometimes people. She is a bit better with women than men. She is crate trained and will do her business on a piddle pad. She is being worked with to be housebroken outside but one step at a time. She feels safest in her crate with only a small area to venture out in, but she is getting better and braver. She even has a bit of a prance in her step now on her short walks. Nancy would do best in a quiet home, with no other pets. She needs a gentle and patient hand to teach her to trust that all is not bad with the world. If interested email April at nailsanddogs@comcast.net

Io

Io Io here! Funny name, huh? Well it doesn’t stand for anything, Io is a moon of Jupiter and that was my brother’s name. I did like to orbit him a lot. I am a dober-mutt. Mom was a red Doberman, but dad is anyone’s guess. Maybe lab, I have webbed toes, and maybe German Shepherd, because of my coloring and I do that one leg behind the other thing with the hook in my tail. I am looking for a new home, because my first home just wasn’t the right place for me. There was a young girl there, who I thought was my littermate. Actually, I think all children under 13 are my littermates. I just could not stop trying to mouth her to get her to play with me so it would be best for me to be in a family with only adults or older children who can be consistent with correcting me when I get mouthy. Ideally, I would like to be with people who have had experience with Dobermans or other working dogs. I really need someone who understands that I need a job to do, because I get bored easily, but I know some of that is my short puppy attention span. In fact it would be excellent to train me for volunteer Search and Rescue, because I have had some agility training and love to go through tunnels, walk on planks, go canoeing, and my nose is on the ground pretty often. I enjoy new experiences and challenges. I’m really not afraid of much. I know how to sit, wait to go out the door, wait to eat and let you check out my new teeth, lay down, give paw, come and stay, briefly. I need work on giving up things in my mouth. I would rather run away with your shoe than give it back! I am only 6 months old so I have not perfected my techniques yet. I need a family who will continue to practice with me. I am very motivated by treats. I love other dogs. I am great with big adult dogs, but I need some work with dogs that are smaller than me. I really don’t take them seriously, yet, when they say “back off”. When other dogs want to play with me I am very springy, and can leap over a large Labrador in a single bound. I love the dog park and will greet the other dogs and owners nicely. I have only met one of those cat things and I thought she wanted to play with me so I pawed her. I think she got mad. My favorite toys are squeaky rubber toys. Sometimes I will retrieve, but often get distracted by smells in the air or on the ground. Give me a bully stick or pressed rawhide and I am content for an hour. I am potty-trained and housebroken. I can sleep 9-10 hours at night in my crate so you will still get a good night’s rest with me around. I did start protecting my old home and family as I got bigger. The usual stuff like barking at people and dogs walking by, but my family always called me and redirected my focus when I barked. Once I get to know you, I am yours, loyal to the end. I am still very young, developing and changing a lot. If you think you have the time and energy to guide me and be a strong leader so I can become a great adult dog, I will be loyal to you forever. Princess
last modified on July 6, 2008
Princess Princess was surrendered to a shelter because they had no time for her. She is 4 years old and just a happy girl. She is an English Bulldog/Boxer mix. She knows her basic commands such as sit, stay and give paw. She is really sweet and super friendly. She wiggles from head to toe. She is a solid little girl at 47 pounds. She is crate trained and appears to be housebroken. Princess cannot live with dogs or cats. She would be fine with children but might be a bit jumpy for small ones. She is such a fun girl and she is waiting patiently for a new family to come along. Email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net

Babe

Babe Hello- My name is Babe--grown up for--Baby. I am 11 years old and I need a new home. I like to be petted and rubbed. I love to walk and snuggle. I am generally very good in the car. Sometimes I talk to the bicyclists and folks along the way. I do enjoy all rides and am very good on long ones. I don't always like to get out of the car and will talk to you about it, but you can convince me. When I came to my family about 6 years ago they had three dogs and a parrot. Now we are living with just one other dog and I would be best as an only dog. Because our family circumstances continue to change, my Mom feels a new home is best for me. I have not had much experience with young children, so need to be in a home with older ones (teenagers) or an adult only home. I follow commands pretty well such as: sit, down, shake, and I walk well on a leash. If you are interested in Babe please email Pam at orphandobe@ameritech.net.
Lucky

Lucky Lucky is an adorable, female, chocolate, Doberman Pinscher mix. She is already spayed, up to date on shots and housebroken. Lucky was surrendered to us at Friends of the Animals shelter last year with her litter of 3 day old puppies. Her previous owners loved her very much and tried to care for her as best as they could but were just not very informed about what type of care a dog actually requires. They had no idea Lucky was even pregnant until she delivered her seven puppies. All of her puppies have been adopted into loving homes already, now it’s Lucky’s turn to find a better home than the one she had before. Lucky would do best in a home with older children and no cats. She gets along well with some of the male dogs at our shelter but doesn’t get along with adult female dogs. Lucky needs to be in a home with an owner who can provide good leadership to her and let her know she is not the alpha dog. She listens to commands well but needs to be given clear directions in a firm tone or she will become “pushy” and choose not to listen. She will walk on a leash well if reminded to stay at a heel and given a correction if needed. She knows how to sit and lay down and is a fast learner. She doesn’t display destructive behaviors like chewing her bed and really appreciates having a soft fluffy blanket to sleep on. Lucky is extremely affectionate and loves to cuddle, gives you dozens of kisses and does the “Dobbie-lean” thing. She also really enjoys going for rides in the car. If you’d like more information about Lucky please email Friends of the Animals at friendsoa@yahoo.com or call us at (563) 886-2361. You can also visit us online at www.foa.thinkhost.com .

Rambo This is Rambo...Bo for short. He was pulled from a shelter in Arkansas and has blossomed since his arrival to his foster home.
Bo is housebroken and lives with several Rottweilers and 2 cats. He gets along great with all of them. In fact he has no issues with anyone or anything. When Bo gets scared or unsure, he runs to his human and grabs onto them with his front paws as if to say "Save me" . He is happy running alongside you, playing with the other animals, enjoying his toys, or sitting on the couch with the kids and watching TV. Bo is probably going to be around 60 pounds when full grown, so will be the perfect size for your home. Wouldn't you love for Bo to become a member of your family? Rosa

Rosa Hello all,
I am contacting you on behalf of Rosa, a Doberman mix who is in desperate need of rescue. She is a 5.5 year old spayed female, adopted from our shelter about 4 years ago and returned in November because she did not like the new dachshund her owners had recently adopted. Rosa is a wonderful dog who only wants loving people she can call her own. She is currently battling chronic ear infections and needs more attention then we are able to offer at the shelter. We have no open foster homes and Rosa is living in a large vari-kennel in our staff office, as we have 11 dog kennels and 31 dogs. Rosa does like some other dogs but will growl when she has had enough. She has never bitten to hurt, and is better with large dogs her own size. Rosa doesn't like small dogs, cats or small children
and has some separation anxiety. She does not like to be left alone for very long. Rosa is housetrained and knows "sit", "stay", "shake", and "lie down"
and LOVES to lay on couches, beds, or any other comfy surface. She loves to be outside and would need a fenced yard or leash with supervision because she likes to wander. Rosa is definitely a people loving dog and is beginning to deteriorate living at the shelter. If you have any open foster homes and are able to rescue sweet Rosa, please contact me as soon as
possible.

Thank you for your time and attention,

Frosty Referral
last modified on June 2, 2008
Frosty Referral Frosty is 2 years old. He has a lot of energy and needs lots of exercise. He walks well on a leash and also enjoys the chance to run. He does like to chase rabbits, squirrels, cats and birds so he does need a fenced yard. He will need to be in a home as a single dog, he does get along with most other dogs but does have a guarding issue with other dogs, but not with people. He can not be placed in a home with children, teenagers might be a possibility. He does have fear issues that he is getting better at but is taking time. He is getting obedience training and will need to continue when he gets adopted. He does enjoy playing/wrestling with you and retrieving even though he doesn't always bring to toy back to you. He is a very sweet boy and enjoys all the petting he can get. He is crate trained and would need to be crated when he is left alone. He is a thief and will get into the garbage and onto the counter/table. He also eats things, like poop, socks, plush toys and who knows what else he might try. He does have food allergies to chicken and rice. He is on a fish and potato diet right now and doing well. Email Amy at amyndobes@sbcglobal.net
Frosty has made great progress since I first got him. He gets along well with 2 dogs but he still has guarding issues, though not as bad as when he first came into my home. He will still be better off in a single dog home. Frosty has gotten out to see the world. He still shows signs of being fearful but is now willing to go up to people he does not know where he would not do this before. He still shows fear with children so his home would have to be child free or at least teenage kids. I have taken Frosty to obedience classes and he does very well with it, he does enjoy working and could possible make someone a nice obedience competitor. I have also started the agility foundation class at my club with Frosty and so far he is liking the class, who knows maybe he will become a duel competitor, obedience and agility. I am also thinking about trying some tracking with him, he does use his nose a lot especially when he is on the hunt. He is very eager to do things and has a lot of energy.
Cassie

Cassie My name is Cassie and I'm an 11 month old dobie mix with a somewhat full tail, who needs a home of my own so badly. Right now I am living with a wonderful foster family and for the first time in my life, I'm safe and loved. But I really would love to be in my own forever home so that I can show them how much love I have to give. I was wandering the countryside in a small Arkansas town when I was picked up by some people and sent to a shelter. At that shelter, I shared a kennel with 8 other dogs for a few weeks until I hitched a ride north with some other pups. Now I'm at my foster home and my foster Dad says I am a very good girl. I am housebroken and love to play with the other dogs, although I can be a little testy with other dominant girls. I ADORE children. I love cuddling in their beds at night. He also says I've been to the doctor and am totally ready to go to my very own home now. I'm a perfect size at about 40 pounds and won't get a whole lot larger.
If you are looking for a small girl with a huge personality, I'm your pup. I'll love you more than you could ever imagine.
If you are interested in making Cassie a part of your family, please email Barb at fla44c@aol.com. She is located in Des Moines, IA. A fenced in yard is required (No invisible fencing please) and the adoption donation is $125 which covers her vetting.
Girl
last modified on May 4, 2008
Girl Girl has to be given up because her owner is sick. She is an older Pit Bull Terrier. She is also very very overweight. She is a spayed female with a great disposition. Girl is friendly, not a barker, housebroken, knows basic commands - sit, down, come, stay, give paw. Seems very affectionate, and the woman says Girl likes everybody from adults down to her grandchildren. According to Betty (her mom), Girl was a stray living in her trailer park, going from trailer to trailer for at least a year when she took her in 3 years ago. The elderly woman has emphysema and was recently diagnosed with a severe heart condition and worries about what will happen to the dog if she gets sick, and she is finding it difficult to afford to feed the dog and care for her. Says she likes to go for car rides and knows the limits of her yard and does not stray beyond those perimeters. Only quirk the woman says Girl has is she will not walk on a leash - if you put a leash on her she sits down and won't budge. I would like to help this woman find a good home for this dog, and one that would work with her to take off some of the excess weight. Diet and exercise would no doubt do the trick, as Girl gets very little exercise as the woman cannot walk far herself. If you can help Girl email Betsy at minpinsrule@verizon.net
Redd
last modified on May 25, 2008
Redd Redd is a 3 1/2 year old guy that needs to be rehomed as the owners feel they are not the best home for him. Redd seems to have some huge anxiety issues. He needs a home that can devote more time to help him with his anxiety or maybe even just a home where he has a companion to distract him better than the toys the owners give him to try to distract him. When they let him outside to go potty or just be in the back yard he will pace the yard. Pacing/barking and panting going up and down the neighbors fence consumes him and they can not break him. They have tried increasing his walks, rapid commands and putting him on a lead and nothing works. He also started chasing shadows. They feel helpless watching Redd's day go by with him being consumed by the shadows. They just can't seem to fix the problem with 3 kids under the age of 5 in the house and it's to the point that it's not healthy for Redd. Redd is a very smart dog. They have done dog training classes so he can sit, down, stay and does great on walks with a prong collar. Even being so large and clumsy he is an awesome dog with their kids. He's no longer doing well in their home since his anxiety seems to have taken over him and hope someone will open their home to him to see if a different environment will make him happier. He is very handsome with cropped ears and a docked tail. Drago is estimated at 3 years of age. Drago had little socialization in his former life, is uncomfortable around younger children, and doesn't interact well with other pets.
