Rio’s story began with hardship, but he’s never stopped loving.

At just 9 months old, Rio was found starving on the streets and brought to a shelter. That’s when a compassionate person stepped in to rescue him and give him a chance of being loved. Unfortunately, due to changing circumstances, they could no longer care for him, and Rio was placed with a relative who has been lovingly fostering him for the past eight months. Now 6 years old, Rio has grown into a gentle, well-mannered, and deeply loving companion. Although his fosters fell in love with Rio, it breaks their heart that they cannot keep him. Rio is ready to find the forever home he’s always deserved and craved.

Rio’s spirit is full of love. He’s housebroken, neutered, and knows all his basic commands. Calm and steady, he enjoys peaceful walks, sniffing the breeze, and stretching out in the grass—but he’s just as happy relaxing at home near the humans he trusts. When he’s craving a little love, Rio has the most endearing way of asking—he’ll quietly make his way over and sit tall and still right beside you, sneaking you a gentle side-eye until you get the hint. He never begs or demands attention, but the moment you start petting him, his whole body melts with relief and trust. Nothing puts him to sleep faster than calm, loving strokes from his favorite human.

Rio is crate-comfortable and well-adjusted. He sleeps in his own dog bed, respects house rules, and doesn’t get on furniture or human beds. He even stays in the lower floor and does not wander if not permitted. He’s incredibly easy to live with and thrives on gentle companionship and routine. He knows boundaries and respects them naturally. He’s also incredibly polite—if he needs to go outside, he’ll sit up straight and wait patiently by the door until he catches your eye. Once you make eye contact, he gives a playful head nod, as if to say, “Excuse me, I need to step out.” He truly is the good-est boy!

He gets along beautifully with other dogs, children, and even small pets. His kind, tolerant nature makes him a perfect match for families, first-time dog owners, or anyone looking for a sweet, loyal best friend.
