Because we are all volunteers, Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus only considers approved applicants to meet our orphans in our foster homes. Update 6/3/26: Thanks to everyone who donated toward Carmela’s care! Because of your support, she has made a full recovery from a nasty case of pneumonia and is finally settling into her foster home. So far, we’ve learned that Carmela is housebroken, crate trained, great with the resident dogs, and not interested in chasing squirrels. While she doesn’t seem to know many commands yet, she’s a smart girl who is eager to learn and please.

At 9 years old, Carmela still has plenty of love left to give. It’s clear she hasn’t always had an easy life, but those days are behind her. Now she’s ready for the happy ending she deserves—a family to call her own.

Update 4/25/26: Carmela is hospitalized with pneumonia and fighting for her life. The cost of hospitalization, medications, and treatment adds up quickly – especially for a senior dog – but we won’t give up on her.

Meet Carmela. This sweet redhead is about 9-years-old and was surrendered to Chicago Animal Care & Control when her owners decided they didn’t want her anymore. She is very confused and could use a foster home to decompress.
