Meet Casimir! This handsome 2-year-old Doberman came to us from Chicago Animal Care & Control after being found stray, and he has quickly stolen hearts in his foster home. Casimir is the perfect mix of goofy puppy energy and total cuddle bug. When playtime is over, he loves nothing more than curling up in your lap and falling asleep like he’s convinced he’s a tiny baby.
Casimir is still very much an adolescent Doberman — long legs, big personality, and that classic “baby dinosaur” phase where he’s growing faster than he realizes. He’s playful, curious, and always ready for fun, whether that means romping around with toys or bouncing around the yard. He also plays wonderfully with the resident female dog in his foster home and has been very respectful and submissive with her. He would likely enjoy having another playful dog companion.
Like many young Dobermans, Casimir is smart, energetic, and eager to learn. He arrived with very little training, but he’s already proving how intelligent he is and how much he wants to please his people. In just a short time, he has learned commands like “sit,” “off,” “come,” and “look at me.” He’s currently working on typical young Doberman manners like not jumping when excited and walking politely on leash. He has done well around people and dogs on walks so far and enjoys getting out to explore the world.
Casimir does have a strong prey drive, so squirrels, rabbits, and birds are VERY exciting in his opinion. He will need a family committed to continuing his training and giving him the structure, exercise, and consistency that young Dobermans thrive on.
One of the sweetest things about Casimir is how deeply he bonds with his people. He loves being near you and truly just wants to be included in whatever you’re doing. He is learning that being left alone is okay and continues gaining confidence every day. When he’s loose in the home, he settles nicely, entertains himself with toys, and enjoys simply hanging out with his foster family.
Casimir has not yet been tested with cats or children. He would do best with a family that understands the Doberman breed and is excited about helping a young, intelligent dog continue growing into an incredible companion. Beneath the goofy puppy antics is an affectionate, loyal boy who is going to make someone an amazing best friend.
