Russell is an incredibly SWEET and handsome 2-year-old, 85 pound ball of pure love. He was found stray and brought to a local agency who then transferred him to us. He has no concept of his size and sometimes is a little overbearing with his love and we’re working with him on manners and explaining to him why Dobermans are not lap dogs. He is a total velcro dog – you will never go to the bathroom alone again. He crates well when his people have go somewhere but can be vocal if he knows you are home and not letting him out to enjoy each others company. At bedtime, he’s happy to climb up and transform himself into a Dober-blanket – he just wants to snuggle as close as possible. Once asleep, he’ll make you laugh with some snoring. He has been introduced to people of all ages and does well with them, but small children will most likely be knocked over so older kiddos would be best for his forever home. He still needs some house manners as he can easily reach a counters and stovetops, so we’re working on that. He LOVES stuffies. He is allowed to carry them around while supervised. It’s really adorable. He is smart! He knows his name, come, sit, wait, stay and checks in (eye contact) but can be reactive on leash towards other dogs so will need a fenced in yard in his forever home in a quiet neighborhood. He is is very food motivated and can be redirected by having him sit and check in (with a reward of cheese, of course).

After slow (VERY slow) introductions he did well with two medium sized older female dogs and two Chihuahuas. He is respectful when the other dogs are done with his goofy antics. In fact, he took their corrections well by backing off like his feelings were hurt for play bowing.  He may try to push the envelope a bit but takes verbal corrections well. He does not do well with cats and small critters that move quickly. He would do best with someone who is invested in training and has Doberman/working dog experience.
