This sweet boy is Tommy. He came to IDR+ after being surrendered to a local animal shelter after his owner move out of state. Before coming to us, he lived with adults and children (aged 10+) and did well. He can be a little nervous when meeting new people and that shows through wanting to stay with the handler he knows. That said, he is won over relatively easily with treats.

He has gotten along with other dogs well. During his time with the local animals shelter he went on pack walks every day. He has been introduced him to female dogs and he’s done well with them, but does not like male dogs. He mostly barks and pulls when we try to introduce him. He does well with male and female dogs on pack walks so the distraction of having a destination seems to do the trick.

Tommy is positive for Von Willenbrand’s disease which is a common bleeding disorder found in Dobermans. Dogs with vWB have the same life expectancy, there is just a little more precaution that is taken with any necessary surgery. It doesn’t impact their day-to-day lives. You can read more about vWD on the Doberman Pincher Club of America website here.

Tommy is getting settled into an IDR+ foster home so we’ll be able to get him comfortable in a home and see his personality come through. As we do, we’ll update his bio with more details so stay tuned!

We respond quickly to applications so please check your Spam or Junk email folders to prevent missing our response.
