Meet Ruby, a stunning 1-year-old red female Doberman with a bright mind and an even bigger personality. She was originally surrendered to Chicago Animal Care & Control when her previous owners no longer had time for her, and she’s now thriving in a foster home while she learns what stability and routine feel like.

Ruby is settling in well and already showing how smart and adaptable she is. She’s currently doing slow introductions with the resident dogs and is not fully integrated yet, but she’s been respectful and responsive with structure. Her history suggests she may do well with other dogs given a proper, gradual introduction.

This girl is a classic young Doberman – clever, energetic, and very people-oriented. She bonds quickly and loves being part of whatever her humans are doing. Ruby is highly treat-motivated and picking up training cues fast; she already knows “sit” and is working on “down.” She’s also doing well with crate training and continues to improve her leash manners each day.

Ruby has a mischievous streak that keeps life interesting – shoes, socks, and anything with a good smell are fair game in her eyes – but she redirects beautifully with guidance and consistency. Fetch is one of her favorite games, though she’ll happily turn it into keep-away if she can convince you. Most of all, she just wants connection: attention, affection, and a person to belong to.

With her mix of intelligence, charm, and eagerness to learn, Ruby is the kind of dog who will truly shine in a home that enjoys engaging with their dog and continuing her training journey.
